That'd be it then. I pulled the impeller and then the "mechanical seal" as the manual calls it. Didn't wanna nick it with a razor blade cleaning gasket material. Live and learn, I guess.

Painted a few bits for the summer project bike in the cool this morning and put in my baking oven (tin garden shed). Went to check at 3.00pm and 51c inside. Paint nice and dry too. :D

Managed to get the VTR running again tonight... was fairly simple... when I had a good look under the tank etc I found that I had the fuel line a little too long and when I put the tank back on I managed to put a kink in the line... apparently they don't like to run with no fuel... imagine that.... :headbang:

I had a similar thing awhile back with the weephole dripping, spent the whole day checking it out, ended up being a sly leak from that bleeder hose at the back of the head, it slyly runs down under the starter motor onto the pump making it look like the weephole, if you do need a rebuild make sure to replace the oil seal aswell as the mechanical seal.

By word of mouth, via mates rates, promises & some wheelings & dealings I managed to get a spare zxr motor this morning for next to nothing in the end, it aint pretty but it has got that projecty smell about it, there would be a lot to do considering it aint even got a tank or fairings, quite a few electricals are missing also, the bike apparently ran last year but lost spark, I took off the carbs and the loom was a mess, can feel a new thread coming tomorrow I think

I noticed the extra bits on the loom near the tail light @kiffsta any idea what that was for ? 20170209_142317.jpg the coils LOOK in ok condition also, maybe an ignition issue? Did you try out a another loom?

Those resistor's may have been added to delete the stand switch and something else like the neutral light switch ?

When the key is on, power should go to the coils, the pulse sender triggers the earth at the ecu. (Well, it was something like that on the zx6r..) See if you get power at the coils and pulse from the sender to start with, then good luck with the ecu safety checks of stand, clutch and whatever else.

You could be right about stand switch, in the quick look I had today I noticed the lack of a sidestand on the bike and connector on the loom. The bike is missing the cdi, fusebox, RR & solenoid also

So, last night I finally was just like "NOPE! DONE!" Damned near pushed the bike off the lift, lit a match and walked away.

I get home, and decide to pull the water pump casing again. Pull it, pull the impeller. Go to pull the mechanical seal (I think this was my problem, there were 2 wings cast into the rubber- i thought they were intentional, i think they were wear, and when I reinstalled the seal, i aligned them incorrectly and put the seal backwards and worn).

Anyhow, so i pull the mechanical seal. Ive had it apart 6 times. This is the first it won't move. I pull harder. Nothing. I get a set of hose pliers in the spring and tug out. Nothing.

Go back to fingers and BOOM!

The whole water pump comes off in my hand. Pulling the water pump exposes the oil pump- which promptly dropped the oil pump spur gear right into the coolant, splashed me with coolant and oil, dropped the retaining pin onto the oil pump rotor so it doesn't move, and started draining oil into my coolant... fresh, brand new, run for 8 miles oil. Right out where the oil pump used to be.

OUT! DONE! Lights off. Close door.

Seal was still stuck on the water pump after all that too.

Guess a Mechanical Seal kit is in my future. Might see about a back face oring as well- it looked pretty flattened.

In the meantime, screw it. it can sit. I'm going to the 1Moto show (http://the1moto.com/) this weekend in Oregon. Taking the Ducati and a friend's Honda Hawk that's half Duc at this point as well- the ZXR is grounded!

Where's the "chocolate soft-serve ice cream" emoji response? Seems appropriate here.

I worked as an ice cream van driver, a mate owned it, there is a point that is too hot for ice cream. We would have a hot day and I think I'll make a killing, but people lose their appetite and you sell very few.

So tonight's task? Leave the bike alone, finish building a moto rack for the back of my pickup. I wanted a removable way to stand two bikes up without drilling any holes in my bedliner. Here's what I ended up with. Little angle iron, some flat bar and some cheap chocks made from Chinesium alloy got me this.

I swapped the Zeal for a DR350, that I previously sold the guy. I'll keep this DR and sell the other 2, once I finally fix them. Now I have to make the scooter start, it doesn't like sitting for a few day, or it is the running for 3seconds that floods or chokes it.. Still got 9 bikes to work on, actually, 11 if you include the quads that belong to my mate.
