Got a few things done today, forks turned up for the SRX and that is going to work out nicely and I got around to putting a couple of coats of base coat on the front guard for the Postie Bike.
Should finish it off tomorrow if it isn’t too windy

Did a little yesterday. Got the CBR 400 in the work area, put the under plastic tail piece in and discovered I am missing a part. Took the airbox and carbies, realised that I have no carby cleaner at home...

Then I thought I would quickly take the cylinder off the KX 250; it's just 4 nuts... A couple of hoses, 3 bolts in the top mount, drain coolant, remove plastics, seat and tank, remove carby, remove radiators... Hmm, bit more involved than first thought, but got it out, and discovered this:
    IMG_20200509_190149.jpg
Seems the power valve has been striking the piston and now the ring is stuck.. might also have and oil leak. Could have just kept riding it, but maybe I saved it.

Good on you keeping up your fitness, especially as the weather is cooling. I'd like to work on my fitness, too, but I have to work on my bikes first - that goes for pushbike as well as motorbikes. :-(

I pulled the old pads, clips etc out of the Gold Spot calipers to clean them up and even after soaking them in Brake cleaner overnight the damned brake dust wouldnt move... scrubbing brush nor scourer would touch it.. so I grabbed the Ultrasonic cleaner... mixed up some Simple Green concentrate, vinegar and water and set it to run for 30 minutes at around 25C.
After 10 minutes I decided to have a look.. (cant help myself really) and I was surprised at how dirty the water was... so I lifeted the basket and to my amazement.. they were sparking clean..

When the front end comes back from the machinist I might dunk each caliper into the Ultrasonic for a short time.. just to see how they clean up.. I will leave the hoses on though.. :)

Took the 380 out for a 200k ride , I have an oil leak coming from the chambers where it meets the barrels , the fuel tap is leaking and my front brake has glazed up and squeaks really bad

to be honest , today was one my best riding days ever , I had a blast.

Took the bike out for a run to get some fresh air and was spotted by the wife out walking with the next door neighbour.
She knew it was me as " recognised the red and white and it was really noisy", now looking to get a SV1000S.

Started pulling the CBR carbies apart; they're purple inside..
    IMG_20200516_145849.jpg
And pulled all the power valve parts out of the KX cylinder - going to need to tidy up some of parts where forces was required.. it's been soaking in petrol to clean up the sooty, carboned KIPS chambers and all the exhaust areas. These bikes are not suited to Ag/trail bike riding slowly! WOT!!

I have been on the lookout for a Honda SL125 for a while now but they are pretty much impossible to find or they are a small fortune... but one popped up today at a reasonable price...Apparently somebody else is having a look at it so I might miss out but... hoping it might work out OK.
Only real issue is some numpty has decided to try and convert it to a Bobber and stuck a different front end on it.. looks like a 17" front wheel with disc brake (should be 21" with a tiny drum), no airbox and a stupid pod but... I think it can be fixed up if I can get it... might have to sell off the Postie but I would definitely prefer the SL125... we will see I guess.

I had a SL100 for a while, absolutely flogged the daylights out of it and it kept coming back for more. Ended up boring it out to 125, hand reamed the little end out to fit the bigger gudgeon pin (Ok, that was a bit dodgy, but hey, I was young then and knew everything :) ) It then enabled me to go up monster hills that bogged it down before, even with a purpose made 60 tooth sprocket on the back. With that gearing, I used to ride it flat out for about 10klms along the tar to get to the riding area, and after mucking about the steep hill, ride it back at the same pace. Always came back for more. I decided they must be indestructible then. A mate had the SL125 and it was much the same, but I don't think it was treated quite as badly as mine. It was my first dirt bike, had only ridden road bikes before that :)

Yep, I had an SL100 at first as well.
Unfortunately I didn’t get this SL125 so I will just have to keep looking.

Managed to get a little bit done on the Postie bike today as well... although 1 step forward... 2 steps back.
Dropped one of the fork legs off to bolt up the front guard after repairs and paint..that all went well... then decided I was going to tackle the carby.. came off easy enough although I really dont like the idea of the petcock being on the carby.
Opened it up to see how bad it was and I noticed somebody had been there before me... chewed up screws etc.
then when I got inside... I found out why I couldnt get the mixture right... the tip of the adjustment screw is broken off inside the carby.. jets are totally munted to the point I didnt even bother trying to do any more...
Brand new "performance" carby on order... with new plug and after market CDI. $79 all up for the lot.. why would I even bother faffing around with this carby.

At least it is looking the part now.

Jim's bike is incredible , his parts bill nearly gave me a heart attack and I wasn't even paying.
