My son's 2006 CR250s back wheel had developed a few loose spokes. Now, these have straight pull spokes and being a few years of dirt and water has caused some of them to seize in the alloy nipples, which means the spoke just turns when you try to tighten the nipple (no bend on end of spoke in hub). I looked around the net last night and all the numpties are just grabbing the spokes with multi grips or vice grips, which leave nice little nicks in the spokes to create a weak spot ready to break. My idea to hold the spoke from turning involved two pieces of 30x6mm flat bar with two 8mm bolts holding the flats tight on the spoke and a 3.5mm hole through between the plates. This allowed me to grip the spoke securely without damage and turn the nipple. I took them out one at a time, wire brushed the spoke thread, applied some grease on the threads and refitted. There was only one I could not move, even with heat, so left it before it broke.
