Hey guys. I'm new here and this is my first post.

I got myself a 1991 Bandit gsf250 recently. It's got this rattling sound when it's running under 2000rpm. Fades away when it hits 2500, 3000rpm and up. cam tensioner is fully extended. Could this be an issue with the cam chain? or with the guides? Any help would be much appreciated.

here is a clip i recorded.

Doesn't sound good. Any difference in the noise if you pull the clutch in? What about if its in gear?

It could be the cam chain if the tensioner is fully extended as you say.

No difference even when the clutch is pulled in or when it's in gear. as long as its under 2000rpm, it rattles. hm, guess it needs a cam chain replacement.

:welcome: Sounds like cam chain. Increase the idle speed to stop the rattle until you can change the chain.

FIXED! finally managed get it fixed! it wasn't the timing chain causing the noise after all. bolts underside the flywheel had gone lose making the plate wobble at lower rpm. bike runs like a dream now. thanks everyone!
