Thought I'd start a project thread for my bike.
Bit hard to read the plate, but looks to be a 79 GT250 X7

It's missing a few bits already, like stock exhausts, so I'm not planning on an original rebuild, and more a cafe style build.

Looks like the engine has been sitting for a while, so the first steps will be to strip and rebuild that while keeping an eye out for other bits I need.

    Hey Phil,

Thanks. I haven't gone through everything yet, but so far I know I need:

    Magneto cover
Oiltank (but may go custom anyway)
    Brake master cylinder/lever
    Fuel tap

Will also need to repair or replace the tank as it has a dent from the forks. Will hopefully get it stripped soon so I can figure out what else I need

    Justin

So basically got it all stripped, just the rear wheel and swingarm to remove.

Does anyone recognise this triple? It's got a dirty big crack/break in it and will need to be replaced, but it doesn't seem to be stock, but this one suits my plans better

Looks like I've got a GSX250 front end as well (but the triple doesn't seem to be from that either)

Thanks :) I'll have to get your opinion on whether my tank is repairable. And if you know anyone in Melb that does it?

So I ordered new front and rear wheel bearings, and new fork seals.. but now realised that since I seem to have a GSX 250 front end I've ordered the wrong seals, GSX having 33mm forks and the X7 having 32mm forks. At least they're cheap.

Can you give us a better photo of the lower forks and brakes? Yours looks a bit different from what's on my bike, I think you have a different bike's front end on yours! Even at full lock I don't think my forks come anywhere near my tank, let alone dent it.
I've heard of Yamy RD350 front ends having been used before, I couldn't say if that's what it is, from that photo though.

I'll try to get a pic, but I'm pretty sure it's a GSX250 front end, with the brake on the left.
I'm not sure it's even the original tank, as it has wrecker writing on the bottom.

I was just reading your thread on netrider the other day, got any spares you want to send me? :D

 No spares yet mate, got red stripped down, yet to touch anything left on blue. Bit hesitant to let anything go until I know I don't need it.
If that isn't an X7 tank it's pretty damn close.

Time to start stripping the engine I guess. Still looking for some parts, Yahoo Japan seems a good resource.
Need to find a good blasting place in Melbourne as well.

    Hey Crspy

When I was doing my X7 up found parts galore on ebay UK. These bikes are popular and you will find heaps of bits. Findapart was also a good source.
