Last week I had the opportunity to peruse some of the latest offering from major manufacturers from around the globe. It dawned on me that over the last 40 years the motorcycle manufacturers have constantly changed and updated the 250cc class in so many ways.
The mid to late sixties saw the parallel twin 2 stroke and 4 stroke bikes hit our roads, we became captivated by the technology and the finish these bikes had. The early seventies saw reed valves introduced in several machines and also the next step, 3 cylinder bikes.
From single overhead to twin overhead cams followed. Before we knew it we had 4 cylinder, twin overhead cam engines revving to levels that seemed hard to comprehend. And now the latest offerings, single cylinder ohc and fuel injected to boot. Seems to me we've done a complete 360, I have no idea why.
Having not ridden any of these new machines and therefore not able to provide any insight into there performance, handling, I await with anticipation those of you who have purchased these new bikes to grant us some news.
So whats next, only time will tell. Such is the constant changing face of the 250cc motorcycle. I will be interested to see how well these new machines are received in the market place, watch this space
