When I was a kid I used to ride trail bikes. I worked on the premise that I had to keep going faster until I crashed. Get back on, then try to go faster, rinse repeat. Then dirt bikes advanced, a lot. A friend gave me a ride on an RM250, about the same vintage as Murdo's Maico. Holy crap! I never got to the limit of that bike and I always wondered what a 500 crosser would be like, of course I am talking about a real two stroke one. If you have never ridden a two stroke motocross bike you need to add that to your bucket list. Note that I suggest full body armour.

I spent an afternoon on my brothers yz125 and was sold on dirt riding. He advised me to just go ahead with a 250 2 stroke since I already "knew how to ride.". Over 4 years later I am far from being able to use my cr250 to its potential. It still occasionally gets bewildering when the engine gets on the pipe and she screams like a witch sat on her broomstick with the brush facing up. She's bucked me off, thrown me down, and has absolutely done her best to punish a newbie: but I still love her.

In other news I've considered having pipes built for my 72 gt550. Inline triple 2 stroke!

I can't imagine what would have happened to me if I went out on the road without my years of dirt riding first. It would not have ended well.
In other news @thebeefsalad. You can make them yourself if you are handy with an oxy torch. I made a set for my brother's Suzuki 250 when I was 16 using the formulas from Gordon Jennings' book. Even if you can't do all the welding you could get a sheet metal shop to roll up and weld the cones, and from there you can cut and tack them into position then only final welding needed.

POLICE have released graphic footage of a high-speed crash at Lutwyche in Brisbane’s inner north in which schoolchildren could have been killed.
The incident happened last Thursday, and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
The video depicts a pair of motorcyclists travelling at high speed, one of them appearing to run a red light before smashing into a car and nearly collecting a group of schoolchildren at the intersection of Gympie and Kedron Park roads.
Officers are now asking for anyone who may have seen the motorcyclists travelling southbound last Thursday about 3.20pm on Gympie Road to come forward, particularly nearby pedestrians or anyone with dashcam footage.
The 23-year-old man involved in the crash remains in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition with serious leg injuries.

Watched this footage on the news last night, what was he thinking????? and a moment later his mate nearly did the same thing, a typical case of ...no brains and happy without them!! The pedestrians won't forget that in a hurry, lucky they weren't injured.

Electric may possibly be the way of the future, but I will miss fiddling with carbs. :lolsign:
