So I rescued this 82 GSX 250 from a scrap steel yard cost me $100 to take it off their hands they said it didn't run and was only good for scraping. How ever after a quick carb clean some fresh fuel and a couple squirts of start ya bastard I had it running, And it actually sounds ok. As you can see it needs a lot of tlc, plan is to go scrambler or cafe racer style. After I got it I stripped the paint off the tank to find loads of dents bog & grinding marks so I'm more then likely going to get a new tank. My question is has anyone swapped the original for a different tank on a rebuild I'm talking totally different? I've found a few reproduction tanks on eBay I'm interested in. Also is there any sort of fork or suspension upgrades that can be done to this model? cheers
Wow for a $100.00 that's a very good find. Cant help you with any tech info , but other's will chime in to help. Not to start any argument's here , but since the bike is all there as such , you could alway's go back to factory look. I personally like the look of them in stock trim and the value of the bike would be higher also. But this is only my thought's though.
My view would be to restore with so much of it there, but your bike and for you to do with as you want. There are plenty of 'cafed' GSX's around so you should be able to get plenty of ideas and where the owners got the bits from. Be aware that if you use those silly little pod filters that you will have many headaches getting the carbs right. Good luck and show us some pics of your work.
In all honesty I'm not a huge fan of the look of the original bike. So I will more then likely modify it. I have never done a project like this before and have only just recently gotten my bike licence so my knowedge of motorbikes is somewhat limited so it will be a massive learning curve for me but thats what im after. I own a small fab shop so and have all the equipment to do it all properly. Plan is to get it in a rideable and roadworthy state which wont take much then get it registered, then ill strip it down and do a rebuild of everything. should be a fun project
No problem mate , it's your bike so it's up to you. Would be a good idea to hang onto all of the original parts though just in case you change your mind.
Yea and its a good idea if u intend to 'get it running' or even start it for that matter, is to use the standard stock setup as much as possible to begin with ..... airbox , exhaust , carb settings and jets etc
Yeah I plan on a full engine rebuild eventually but only to original specs to start with it has approx 45k on the clock
