after considering this since whenever i finally booked into a track day at Broadford (VIC) run by http://www.championsridedays.com.au for Sunday 21 August. Cost was $125, as opposed to Phillip Island $200.
Love to see any other fizzers there so i've got at least a hope of passing someone!!
Just got to get me a set of leather dacks and keep the fingers crossed for some fine mid-winter weather.

Sweet!!! Be sure to have a pit crew that can go and take many, many, many pictures. Oh and post them up when you're done.

Have fun, learn something, and come back in one piece each (you and the bike).

despite the superbike school costing $200 you can also hire leathers from them for $35 (full gear is $55 - excess of $500). So if you are not planning on making it a regular occurence, and do not have any other reason to buy leathers, it may be a good option. And if you prefer you can hire a daytona 600 for the day @ $275 if you are worried about stacking it (excess of $2500)

I am hoping to do a track day with them sometime before winter next year (my own bike, hired leathers probably. THough I may rent a bike if the cost of tires is excessive - don't want to go through a set of tires and also have to pay for that!).

Hey spook, not sure if i can muster up the dosh for leather pants quite yet (possibly before next winter) but i'd be keen to do it. Although by then i may have already upgraded to a bigger bike - but i'd still be keen!

If nothing else i'll come along with the camera and get some awesome shots.

thanx for the support, dudes. There is a professional photographer on site who apperently snaps a heap of shots through the day, which you can view and buy over a website later on. Not that there'd be anything spectactular on my part. (except maybe the complete destruction of my only good remaining fairings!)
These guys also offer hire of superstock gsxr600's with new tyres, yoshi pipes, pit crew, tyre warmers etc.), as well as leathers if you need 'em so I reckong they're doing a good job of competing with superbike school, Boz.
Anyway, being a bit of noob, its probably better trying a smaller, cheaper track than phillip island for a first up track day. PI is so fast the 250 would just be maxed out through a lot of it.
Anyway, looking forward to it, hope to see you there Koma and any others!!

I'd love to go to a track day..... need to save my pennies!

Is the excess what you pay when you damage their stuff? (hire of the leathers and/or bike)

I had a look at their website and saw the gsxr's for rent, but nothing about leathers. If they do that i may reconsider.

Yup. If you crash you need to pay. They actually require an excess deposit beforehand (you need to give them a credit card number, whcih they put the excess against, and if you don't crash then you get the money refunded).

you're right boz there's no mention of leathers on their web-site or fact sheet but i'm sure the girl i spoke to on the phone said they do offer them for hire - best to ring and check i guess. i actually just got a set of leather pants with sliders from a guy in narre warren for $180 - with zip attachment to leather jacket - can't pick the difference between them and my brothers $500 alpinestars. got his details through netrider, he has a shop on ebay called "race master imports" but you can just go down and get the gear there cheaper direct. Never had a problem with the gear (i've bought a leather jacket and gloves there as well - all CHEAP).
Yep, i'm a tightwad

"race master imports" - they used to have a webpage but it was taken down. Thanks for letting me know they ahve an e-bay shop - I was planning on looking into leathers from them given teh price. I don't consider myself a tightwad - I am just very frugal.

Apparently (and this just came up on netrider yesterday) race master imports has an e-bay shop plus a online store. The online store is:

Scorpion leathers:
http://www.sc3.com.au/cart/?m_name=scorpion&m_id=268
(if that doesn't work: www.scorpionracegear.com.au)

Race master e-bay shop:
http://stores.ebay.com.au/RACE-MASTER-IMPORTS
(same gear, but if you use the buy it now price it is more expensive)

the guy's name is craig hutchison, and you will definately get a better price than the web ads if you just go there in person and offer cash (if you've got it of course). Gives you a chance to try the stuff on and have a look at the options too.

Hmm... i might get a back protector from that guy when i next get paid. They look like the Dianese one's... perhaps an in person try-on and some cash in hand would render a good deal.

just got back from the track - had a ball.
Track was wet early but dried up quickly and all sessions bar one were in dry conditions. Would recommend these track days to anyone who wants to have a dip - they're well organised, no fuss, not overcrowded etc.
Funny i was the only 250 (except a couple of racing 2 strokes) and pretty much the slowest bike, however the broadford track kind of suits this as its short and twisty. Quite often the bigger boys would blast past on the straight, but i could could close right up through the twisty bits.
Of course there were a few of the unavoidable "close calls" - coming within a bee's dick of running out of track a couple of times etc., but got it home in one piece.
Even in one day you become so much more confident and comfortable leaning the bike over further and cornering faster - like i said - i reckon everyone should have at least one go
(ps will post photos if i can chase them up)

I am thinking of doing a track day but I have to go all the way to Goulburn and hope I don’t crash so I can get home, they also only open the track for 5 or more bikes so I will have to start asking around. Should have new boots and leathers by Christmas tho as long as nothing else breaks. Can’t wait to see the pics.

haha i was in the same boat - i reckon me and my brother were the only idiots who rode to the track (in the rain), everyone else seemed to be well set-up with trailers/utes/vans etc. The ride home was interesting, 100kph felt like a crawl.

found the photos - you've actually got to buy them so they're unfortunately covered in copyright text. Anyway, check out those lean angles!! haha must have been taken early in the day, before the tyres warmed up or something.
