Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone ever had the balls to try one of the unrestricted cdi's from ebay???
part of it makes sense but then some of it doesn't make sense but might just be a language barrier.
Anyone tried this?

Quick secondary note, has anyone put bigger carby jets on an across? does it make much difference?
Thanks again for everyone's help.

alibaba.com normally has things in plain English.

I've never had an across so i cant comment on the CDi but i'd say go for a jet kit for the carbs if you can, it will work, but to get the most out of it, do the jetting along side a replacement hi flow air filter (k&n or BMC) and exhaust. get your bike tuned so that all changes work together and you'll get the most out of it.

also have a look at sprocket set up. front and rear.

jesus she would rev pretty fkn high with a rear sprocket as well, I did do front sprocket 1 tooth down and noticed a pretty big difference in rev range but if i dont plan on going over 140k's i guess a rear sprocket wouldnt be too bad.
why are u so helpful moo, here have a like.

happy to help mate, this is what this site is all about and what everyone here is focused on.

unsure of what the standard sprocket is at the rear but maybe go two up and see how that feels, then change the front to standard and see how that feels. play around with it and you'll find whats best. but do have a look at carb rejetting, air filter, exhaust brakes and tyres :) those mods together will transform your bike....then look further after that.

well because im such a MASSIVE rossi fan ive noticed any production bike he rides is matt black. SOOOOO i decided to spend 25$ dollars get 2 cans on matt black and some fine sand paper and sanded/keyed the bike surface and sprayed it matt black without even taking the fairings off LOL. A cop at mcdonalds says to me "is that one of those new wraps!!!?, i was like na just cheap black spray pain and was thinking PLEASE DONT REALISE I DONT HAVE FRONT MIRRORS ON!!!!!" heres a photo [IMG][/IMG] [IMG]

Cheapest and less complex way of speeding up your bike is to buy a bigger one. *ducks*

Most aftermarket stuff is China, aliexpress.com. They're hell slow but you'll still find some good stuff and make offers because they'll lower their price sometimes if they make a sale. I almost use it more than fleabay because it's the same stuff you just have to wait longer!

But as for chinese electronics... if it's $50-100 I'd take a gamble but not more than that. Chinese are generally bad at quality electronics because they make them too cheaply.

Yup .....easiest way to go faster is get a faster bike

Alternatively spend the money and time on fuel and riding it more ....... :prankster:

YOU BETTER DUCK!!!! lol you wont believe me when i say this but today at work I literally looks at EVERY lams bike there is today specs whatnot.
The left fielders that caught my eye where the new KTM rc390 and the Cagiva Mito 125 2 stroke.
But lets be realistic... its either RVF400, CBR250RR or ZXR250.
Only problem is those 3 bikes are not only rare but are over priced IF in half decent nick.
At this point my across is running well (except for this weird noise which i think might be the clutch actually).
But not power loss realllllly. But with another 2 grand thrown at it, it may be a pretty decent "underdog" lams bike.

But the difference there is the time ( have plenty of that) and money (not so much of that) that I spend on the Fizzers here is to fix the wear and tear, previous owners shoddy workmanship and neglect on bikes that are 25+ years old but are rocketships when brought back to something like when they came out of the factory ...... they don't need changes ( except maybe for the mushy front end )..... they dont need mods , they go like stink in stock mode..... just ask @Grasshopper

As I always say ..... these bikes were designed and engineered by very smart little Japanese men in white coats .... they know their ****

And they are cheap as chips these days.

I concur with the above keep practicing on the little across, save your 2k until you are off your lams. Then you can get some cheap speed. I have my 01 zx7r that I got for $1700 and it'll do 100 in less then 3 seconds and run a sub 11 quarter mile. That my friend is cheap speed.

Ask your missus if bigger is better and then tell me to duck :p

@GreyImport no FZR in that list. This young padawan has a lot to learn...

Only if you don't look hard enough...

Uhh... I definitely would not be throwing that kind of money at an old 250cc unless it was a real classic worth restoring or you were a serious racer. But each to their own I guess. If circumstances permitted I know what size bike I'd have. Now I should duck.
