As there was some positive feedback from my suggestion to the idea of an Arthurs Seat / Red Hill ride, this is a tentative thread to see if i cant get some firm answers for this weekend.

WEATHER PERMITTING: (have to wait for the B.O.M to get a firm idea)
Date: 17/10/2004
Time: ~10am meet (leave 10:15am)
Meet place: to be confirmed / arranged (suggestions welcome)

N00b's, friends, and veterans are most welcome.

Route:

10:15am. Leave.

I'm in Fitzroy, so i'd be leaving the city and heading down through St. Kilda and down beach road all the way down to Frankston. We'd be stopping in Mt Eliza/Mornington for a break and to meet up with the peninsula riders coming along.

11:15am.

From there it'd be a short hop down the freeway before turning off and heading up to Red Hill. The run out the back of Red Hill is to be confirmed (discussing / organising with the locals who know the good bits); although it'd probably see us heading all the way down to Sorrento / Portsea.

12:30pm.

Then a nice cruise back up the beach rd. before turning off and heading up the back of Arthurs Seat for a break at the top (possibly also a BBQ if theres interest).

1:30-2:00pm.

Of course, if we're feeling like it then we'll probably end up modifying the route and/or extending it... but thats the general plan all in all. Should be a fairly good ride, nothing very intense... just a nice run up through the Peninsula hills.

If you need any more info, or want to discuss the route / day; please feel free to email / IM me or just post in this thread.

Cheers,

Koma.

Yep, its MotoGP this weekend... and whilst i wasnt trying to compete with the rides going to the MotoGP (pfft.. why bother); id just rather be out there riding than watching it on TV.

Well the current rider count is 5; you included Garfield2k. Although its early days yet.

Sounds like a great ride, and good to see that you ahve posted it on netrider - there are likely to be quite a few people from there who will be interested. I am moving into my house this weekend so can't go unfortunately.

Also - be wary on the road up to Arthur's seat. There were reports about 2 months ago of a unmarked police rider on an R1 who rode with everyday riders up and down that road. He would push them, and as soon as they started speeding substantially he pulled them over. Being motoGP weekend I would expect most police will be monitoring the roads to and from the GP though.

I have not heard of this sort of thing happening before or since, so it may have been a once off, and could have also been one of those motorcycle legends (sort of like fishermen stories - I caught one THIS big)

also another thing which i heard from when i went for my license at MTA, one of the instructors there was going pretty quick on his GSXR but then hit a patch on the rd where there was sand and he ended up losing the bike and broke his leg plus some other nasty damage. Apparently there are some people in that area that put sand on the roads to stop people from going fast as there is less traction. I can understand people not wanting motorists to go fast but putting their lives in danger is nothin short of F$%^in stupid

Yeh, i know Arthurs Seat fairly well. I used to be a local down that way and spent many years driving the areas i intend on riding.

Even still, the conditions up the main run (front) of Arthurs Seat do change dramatically even day to day, with silt and runoff... vegatation debris... and yes even the bit of sand (they actually put it ontop of oil spills). Whilst neither is nice, id rather hit sand than oil.

Its not really Arthurs Seat which will be the main part of the ride; as the best roads are out the back of Red Hill and Main Ridge. The stopoff at Arthurs Seat was more of a social thing (and mebe for the BBQ)... cos theres always a whole load of bikes at the top on nice days.

As for the thing with the cop on the camera bike; yeh its true... although they only have them down on Arthurs Seat on occasions, whereas through Marysville & the Spurs theres pretty much atleast 2 every weekend. They stick out like a sore thumb though... look for the freakin camera on the left mirror! (Little CCD pod looking thing).

edit: Also, just trying to get some firm answers on if people are coming or not. So far i've got me & 2 mates as definites... and thats about it. Everyone else seems to be giving the 'umm... but its MotoGP.... but i MIGHT come...'

edit: Yeh, im a student aswell.. but im in my interim year studying Architecture, so im working 5 days a week; 9am - 5:30.
Although if you can gimme about a week or so advance notice ill either take a sicky or take a day off.

Just to confirm that the ride is definitely going ahead with the news of Fine & 24 from the B.O.M. Numbers seem to be picking up a bit, currently at about 6.
