Open invitation to all 2fifty members and friends to attend a visit to the National Motorcycle Museum of Australia at Nabiac NSW. The plan is for Tamworth members to leave town around 8am on Saturday the 19th of March, going via the Port Stephens Cutting to Gloucester for lunch (meeting Hunter/coastal area members) and on to the museum for the afternoon. Dinner and accommodation at the Nabiac Hotel (02 65541210 for booking, single $60, twin share $75) with a leisurely breakfast at cafe before riding home. Any interested in joining me for a look at over 800 different bikes and a beer? Info; http://nationalmotorcyclemuseum.com.au/
Sounds great - that's the weekend of Barry Sheen festival... I can't that weekend because I have to work
Nah not for me .... Ive got a MUCH better day planned on the Sunday ....... riding all day around ******* cones in a school playground ... yippeeeee !
sorry, barry sheene already pencilled in for the sunday. happy to have lunch on the saturday.why not put off a week or have earlier?
Yes, I know it is the same weekend as the Sheen Festival, but there are only four weekends in a month and the next one is Easter and the ones before is also booked. This is for those that can't go or don't want to sit in the sun/rain watching racing.
Okay, time to try this again. The new planned dates are the 24th and 25th of November. Now this is a Thursday and Friday and I know it will not suit a lot of members, but is being organised with another Tamworth club and those dates suit most of those going. Anyone interested?
Murdo, I just read your post from this morning, so apologies if my other post about coming up for the Gunnedah drags is at cross purposes with the new dates for the museum visit. I'd love to come along, but it's unlikely that I'll be able to do 2 visits to Tamworth within a month. If I don't come up for the drags, then count me in for the Museum trip (if I can borrow a bike off someone up there). Cheers Frank
Nine riders met at the servo for am 8am off. Stopped for coffee at Nowendoc (don't recommend it). Arrived at museum after some lunch at the cafe. They even had parking in the shade for us. Just inside the door is this wild creation made on the Central Coast of NSW. Behind the drag bike are a pair of '60s Kawasaki 250cc two stroke twins, one a road bike and the other the race version. Who remembers the Gemini bikes from Taiwan? I briefly owned an 80cc version.
A '60s Honda 250 twin about to go into the restoration room. Doesn't look too bad now, will be beautiful when they finish with it. 250cc two stroke Velocette from the '20s. 1950's Maicoletta 250cc two stroke scooter. Unusual in that it had 14" wheels. Parts of the engine in these would go on to be used in the dirt bikes of '60s to '80s. 1930's 250cc Levis two stroke. 1937 250cc Cotton. 225cc Federal (English make). Kawasaki 250cc 'street scrambler' from early 1970's. After a three hour wander it was time to head to Wauchope for the night. Next morning we went to Port Macquarie to have breakfast at a cafe overlooking the ocean. Well fed then back through Wauchope to tackle the Oxley Highway to home. 663Km, great weather and a fun couple of days with good company on bikes. Bliss.
A couple more I missed from the visit. A 250cc Cooper. A Mexican made copy of a Yamaha trail bike from the early '70s. Moto Guzzi 250/4 from early '80s.
