Being new to bikes, I have no idea where to source all those general service items without the wallet getting ripped a new one. I'd imagine dealers are quiet expensive for those sort of things? are there any good online shops or anyone know a place on the east side of Melbourne and willing to share?
    Cheers, JimL

Sorry, as soon as i posted i realized i should have been more specific!
I'm curious about parts for older bikes (late 70's-80's) bits like filters, oils, bearings, fork seals, brake pads, disks, drums ect.
and another question relating to oils. i know older cars prefer mineral oils, so whats the go with running mineral or synthetic oils in bikes?

synthetic takes more abuse and lubricates better.

If I am in a hurry, then I normally get my oils, filters and plugs from a riding school near home, they look after me with pricing. If there is no rush, then @Grasshopper is well priced or I use the likes of ebay to get them in.

For my restorations most of the bits come from Ebay (things like rims and spokes, cables, handle bars, etc). Some bits I can make (eg gaskets) or modify from something else to fit, but generally don't bother with the bike shop as anything last century is too old for them.
I use Castrol 4T from Repco ($35 for 4lt), but buy fork oil, tyres and two stroke oil from bike shop.
Filters from Andy's bike bits. Seat covers from local upolestry bloke. Bearings, bolts and seals from local engineering supply shop.
If your looking for something specific, put up a wanted post and we may know where to go.
    Hope this helps.
