    Well... I bought the ACROSS...
It isn't too bad... the fairings need some work.. a little plastic welding and some paint... a really good clean and a few bits and pieces and she should be good to go again.. I hope.

Once I get the key and I can get the seat off I will see what i need in terms of electrics etc... shouldn't be much and then we will see if it runs...

More pics etc along the way... hopefully this one will only be a short project... just long enough to get it ready for Reg and a quick sale.. :)

    Nice score.
Is that fingerprint dust on it ?

    Haha, no.
It's been sitting under a tree with a cover over it I am told.
A little Simple Green worked miracles in cleaning it up

OK... so this afternoon I managed to get the seat off.. and started to have a good look at what needs to be done or purchased for this unit..
    UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_e3c.jpg
    UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_e3f.jpg
I knew it needed at least one Coil Pack... (got one today) and new leads and caps while I am at it... then the battery box can be bolted back in and everything tidied up... degreased and checked..
LH rear set needs replacing.. I don't think it would pass RWC without the heel guard..
    UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_e3e.jpg

RH side rear set is OK.. .just needs a brake lever and footpeg... (might be hard to find a brake lever).
    UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_e3d.jpg

Scrape on bellypan is easy to fix...
    UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_e38.jpg

Scrape on the top fairing is a bit more brutal but still not too bad..the LH side rear cowl is probably the worst of the bodywork... it is cracked and the mounting lug has broken off...
All weldable but I can get 2 good sides pieces... (they will need paint) no repairs necessary for between $40 and $60... hmmm what to do???

    UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_e47.jpg

The paintwork is really shabby when you have a close look.. painted over decals (seems common on the fake tank with these)... peeling off underneath.. and some deep marks int he top of the helmet storage (fake tank)... Yes... it used to be red...

I need to also have a good check of the head bearings... there seems a little click when you hold the front brake and push down (trying to check the front forks)... might just need greasing and adjusting but not a big deal to replace them either... I just don't want to spend too much... looking for a quick turn around on it.. :)

I forgot amongst all the other stuff... it needs a new screen as there wasn't one... anyone know if dark tinted screens are OK for Rego??

Well... I decided to have a crack at welding the rear cowling up... and it came up pretty nice.
I used more SS mesh as it is a stressed area... a bit more welding on it tomorrow night and I might even get some filler into the panels... easy stuff to do and no noise :)
    More pics tomorrow... most likely.

So... pics of the rear cowl all welded up...
The inside... with SS mesh for strength..
    UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_e49.jpg

You can see the "penetration" for lack of a better term in a few areas on this side...
And the final piece... it was actually broken off but is now just as strong as the rest of the cowl...:)
    UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_e47.jpg
I have been busy collecting a few little items that are needed... and ordered a new screen ($54 delivered from eBay) and a battery... so hopefully before Christmas it will be up and running again...

Now to get the paint matched... and see what it is (I am pretty sure its 2 Pak).
I might have to paint all the plastics yet... I will see.

    Good work!
The only thing i would do different is to strip the paint on the outer of the fairing around the repair and melt that cracked plastic back together.
Take it back to bare plastic again, get rid of that primer and spray putty around the repair, then melt it together.
All it will need once sanded is a light skin of polyester putty (also called 2 pack bog, used on car bumper repair's etc) to fill and enable you to sand it back flush ready for primer/paint

Yep... I was waiting to sand it all back before blending in the outside... its all held together underneath that area with the SS mesh so its strong... I just want it reasonably neat, this one doesn't have to be perfect as its a flip.

Man the paint job is rubbish... looks ok from a distance but when you get in closer it appears to almost be a "mask it up... throw some 2 Pak on and flog it".
I will need to address that... at least in white it isn't too hard to fix...

I have been seriously looking at the paint on this bike and rather than do a full respray... I am thinking I might do a full vinyl wrap... maybe a cool White Carbon Fibre wrap... about $90 for the material.. no mess.. Hmmmm

That would be cheaper than paint.

I know what is cheap (relatively speaking) but with no Booth and we are renting.... I don't mind spraying some clear in 2K but doing all the panels on the ACROSS??
Wrap isn't difficult as such... no heart hazards and clean up is a rubbish bin...
Besides... the prep work to wrap is far less than I would want to do on this bike if I was going to paint it...
I am still in 2 minds on it... but the gloss white CF might help sell it too :)

I would paint, that carbon fibre wrap is a real PITA to use on curved surfaces, everyone should try it once so they never bother with it again lol

I haven't fully made up my mind on paint or wrap just yet... but leaning towards paint... I just know how much prep I need to do... the SRX only has the tank and a couple of little panels.. the ACROSS has big fairings and lots of edges... lol

Anyway... I had been trying to figure out what looked to be a fairing bracket on the RHS that was all bent out of shape so I went searching for pics and I then found out it is the bracket that holds a strip of thin rubber.. looks to be an Air deflector.. I will get pics later... This makes sense as there is one on the LHS... now that I look closely... lol
I guess I just need to reshape it and get some thin Insertion rubber and cut it to shape???
I assume they are to stop exhaust heat being funnelled back onto the rider... or something similar.

So, today was quite busy with not a lot to show for it.
I finished all the plastic welding including a new lug, a mounting bracket and a few other minor bits. All came up pretty well. [IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
I then tackled cleaning up a left rear set to replace the Brocken one.
I painted it using Shadow Black wheel system, just for a change.
The RHS will maybe get done tomorrow.
Last on the list was to clean down the fairings as I had the pressure cleaner out.
Turns out the paint on the bike has a hint of pearl to it. What paint is good looks lovely in the sun so I might see if they can match it. Big ask I think lol

With my VT and CBR I used a three step (white, pearl and clear) paint from a late model Suzuki car.
