Some I can think of in no particular order. Oxley highway from Walcha to Wauchope. Bruxner highway Tenterfield to Casino. Gwydir highway Grafton to Glen Innes. Thunderbolts way Walcha to Gloucester. Dorrigo to Bellingen. Bingara to Inverell via Copeton Dam. Kyogle to Murwilumbah. Ebor to Grafton. Putty road Singleton to Windsor (on a quiet day). Oberon to Goulburn (not in winter).
What I was trying to do last nite was include a pic. And say. Most of my favourite roads end up with a pic at "the sign" Of which I have many.
Blimey Murdo That looks like my bucket list. Although I can say that I have done all the roads [but one] in your list. They have been in only one direction and only once. Damn you New Southers, you get all the good bits of the GDR. The GDR [great dividing range] runs right up the east coast. Although it gets pretty low and pretty skinny in places. It does rise to reasonable heights in NQ. Which is where corner starved flat landers like me like to go. Given the time and equipment. The pic above is from one of many of those trips. R. [Run out of time to put up the list tonite]
My current favorite place is an old gokart track. Buddy of mine and I call it "The Bu." Short for "Old Malibu GP," and stolen from "Malibus Most Wanted." .4mi of mostly curves. The front straight is the only straight when you are riding it at any kind of speed. I spend at least 2hrs/week there honing skills on my klx110. I'm far from fast and have a lot to learn. So far this has been a great place to do it. As far as I know I am the only one really taking care of the track surface but someone is paying to have the lot mowed. I digress! I have 3 splash marks on the track surface that I claim with pride. Not in a race, and so far have only lost 1 clutch lever to it. I'm slowly getting faster and more confident, but damn these tiny bikes are a different ride.
I wish we could use our local go kart track, but sadly the rules of the governing bodies get in the way.
Mossman - Mt Molloy Rd aka the 'Rex Range' Of the great roads in NQ and there are plenty. The Rex Range cant be beaten for long tight constant radius curves with serious elevation change. It's a cracker bit of track, and well out of the way. Mention the Atherton Tablelands to anyone who knows and the first response you'll get. Is. The "Gillies" and with good reason, it's an unbelievable hill climb. A serious workout if you get a clear run at it, it has been knobbled by speed limits in recent years. The Gillies Hwy is the road from Gordonvale to Yungaburra. Google it, there is plenty of onboard footage up at youtube. TBC.
Haven't ridden up the Gillies since 1977. Cannot remember it that well, but I guess it has improved since then. I remember getting to Milla and thinking 'I have ridden 2,500Km to find a place that looks just like Dorrigo, NSW. There was cows standing on the sides of hills, timber trucks on the road and blokes digging potatoes in the paddock, just like Dorrigo.
Fwiw Millaa is on the Palmerston not the Gillies. But from what i'm told the old Palmerston was quite a goat track back in the day. There are still bits of the original track up the top, most of it has been smoothed out. The Palmerston is a great road, and probably the one I look forward to the most when I get up there. There are other roads though that in short sections I reckon are the best of fun. The Palmerston from Ravenshoe to the Millaa T. The Millaa T thru Tarzali to Malanda. And. The Kennedy from Atherton to Ravenshoe. And yeah Murdo, I think I mentioned it above. It's the same range. Back in the day they cut the trees off the steep bits and planted cows instead. The northern tablelands have beautiful volcanic soils in places, will grow anything. But when it rains up there, does it rain. Some of the wettest towns in Australia!
Throw in another pic from the roof of Nth Qld. Took me mate little Ted on this trip in January '16 His job was to buy the beers.
This one was abandoned a long time ago. Municipal laws say someone has to mow it. Enough people are there on a daily basis it may as well be a park...but of course if it becomes a park I won't be able to ride there any more.
my favs in no particular order Brisbane to Mt Lindesay then Kyogle and back over the Lions road - Lions road is in poor nick, but still a good ride. Grafton to Glen Innes - Pure bliss on the twisties Mt Mee - heavily policed, but great roads Beaudesert to Robina through beechmont, Greta roads, very heavily policed. Malaney Monteville via the Obi Obi road My local is the Mt Cotton loop, heaps of fun for a quick ride.
Ah, man, that takes me back @kiffsta . When I was living in Ferny Grove (before I rode) I used to take either my RX7 or RX2 coupe out every Sunday at dawn. Out to Samford Village, left onto Mount Glorious Road, out to Mt Nebo Road, back down Waterworks, left at Settlement and back over the hill to Samford Road. I'd LOVE to do that on a bike.
That Grafton to Glenn Innes road certainly lived up to expectations .... as I mentioned on the weekend meet up, my family has lived in Yamba for yonks so having driven over it by car a zillion times I knew it would be great on a bike ..... and a real bonus is the surface is quite good for NSW standards.
Having grown up in the NW burbs of Brissie. The Nebo Glorious tracks were oft done. Back in the day the loop around Mt Cootha was regarded as a racetrack. There were even lap records for it!
