Linkin's Zeal tacho burnt out when his regulator failed
Carby's could need a clean yeah, if you ever take them off check out the needle's and emulsion tube's for wear.
They might even need a slight tweak on the mixture screw's.
Cleaning the chain that way will be fine

Get your self a paddock stand .... one that sits under the swingarm ..... great for working on the bike and especially doing the chain

Yup, a Paddock stand is on the to buy list. I imagine a single rear one would be enough to start with?

I'm curious as to what's happened to the tacho. It's still going up to 1/2kish when idling, and you can see faint changes as you rev it, so there's some power going to it..

On the low grumbly sound, there's actually a fair bit of power loss going on until you 'break through' that low grumbly bit, getting into the higher revs. Is there anything else it could be before I check the carbs? (Something I've never done before, so I imagine it'll take a bit of learning :crazypilot:.

I was thinking about your voltage reading last night, 13v might be a bit low, it should be around 14v
I was tidying up my stuff this morning and found another reg/rect, i've posted it to you today so you can try it out
The reading's off it were a bit lower than the other i sent, so hopefully it might make a difference and put out a few more volt's?

The tacho may have a burnt resistor or something causing it to not work properly, do you know if you can take them apart ?

Ah you shouldn't have done that mate! I'll double check the voltage on it later on but I'm sure it's fine. In any case I definitely owe you a beer if you ever make it to Melbourne.
Not sure re the tacho - may have to take it apart next rainy day and see what I can find! Any thoughts on that power loss? The issue has reoffended on and off since I've had the bike (~1.5 years) but it's never persisted for very long...

Might be a bad connection somewhere?
Unplug each plug/socket on the bike and check the condition of the terminal's inside, put some of that grease on them and plug them back in.
Could be a bad spark plug or spark plug cap too ?

And try running the bike with the kill switch unplugged, sometime's they get corrosion in them and can play up

If you're free I'm on holidays and have been spending quite a bit of time in the shed working on bikes. Bring it round and we can do some work on it if you want.

@my67xr The second reg/rec came today mate. Thanks for sending it out, but I feel bad you spent money posting it out for me! I'll test both of them Saturday at Joker's and see which is the better of the two. Hope the opportunity pops up to pay it forward later down the track to another struggling zeal owner!
