    Brains trust I need advice

So today I headed to the shed all very excited to work on the A model

Had great things planned for a very successful day

That all came to a screeching halt, when just an over sight on my part (bought the bike out of a shipping container) that the bike doesn’t have a compliance or a vin plate

My question to you all is this as I don’t wanna dump time into something that I may not be able to register! The plan was to do a ground up resto as I love that bike

So what are my options team? Is it effectively a boat anchor now? Do I have to find another chassis now ? And how would that go with the engine number? Have a bought a stolen bike or write off? Or do I change directions and race the thing on track

Any advice would be greatly appreciated on a direction to head moving forward

Do a PPSR search to check its status with the chassis number ... Im pretty sure u can do it with just that but being a grey import then maybe not

A PPSR search may also return other useful vehicle information from NEVDIS. This may include details about the vehicles description, registration (plate) information, and stolen and written off status.

Do you have any registration paperwork for the bike, or the old number plate. You also need to check what the rules are in QLD for this situation.

Here in NSW, but I was able to re-register my FZX250 Zeal which was a grey import also missing its' compliance plate. It had to meet the identity requirements (AUVIS mechanic inspects the bike, pretty much a standard blue slip) and for NSW it has to be registered for a full year prior to having the plate lost. I was lucky in the fact my Zeal had been registered before.

This one is going to be tough because your compliance plate has been removed , you can see the 2 small holes on the side of the frame which is where it was located , It is not under the pillion seat by chance is it ?

What you could possibly do is contact https://www.infrastructure.gov.auAnd ask for information about your frame
Number , I have done this and received a copy of the import approval certificate. In your case , i know you want to do a full resto on the bike , why not make sure the engine is good and look for a replacement frame , alas I don’t have one , but I am sure someone on here would have one lying around

I was interested to see what the chassis number would produce on the PPSR .... ZX250A-002400 and ZX250A002400 showed no result
Not surprising as the dealers/importers use a new number setup when compliance is done for Australia

My C model has the original frame number struck out and the new VIN stamped next to it ... I think Ive seen the FZRs done like that too

Maybe your bike made it off the ship but not out of the container ... but then it has a noise test sticker in English

The Ppsr won’t work because you don’t have the vin number that was issued when it was imported , the only option is to get the import approval paperwork and try get a new compliance plate issued which could be an expensive exercise, else buy the spare frame off Steve.

Not to sound alarmist, but the compliance plate was removed and the thing has been sitting in a container for a long time...stolen bike?

Thanks for that, yeah I did the same thing, and same result, thought I put the numbers in wrong, but yeah, I guess next step is finding the import approval papers, I just hope I haven’t purchased stolen goods

Look, even if you have bought a stolen bike there's not much you can do other than point the cops at the person you bought it from. If it has been in that container for years, then you might as well do what @kiffsta said and swap out the frame and get the bike running and registered again. Don't throw your frame away, as it can be used for a track bike.

Depending on where the trail leads, if it has been stolen, you could potentially locate the previous owner, who may well not want it back anyway by this stage and acquire ownership legally and get the relevant papers to get the VIN and compliance re-issued because if the frame is stolen and unable to be re-registered, wouldn't the engine also be blacklisted as it's associated with the VIN in the records?

    UPDATE!

So tmr actually get a fair few ppl onto this, it got handed between three diff people,to which finally an older guy (said he has bikes himself) said the following

cannot track the chassis number anywhere, and he checked not just in word but all over, he did however find the engine, but said that the engine didn’t match what I was showing him in the photos! Although the colour was apparently the same

I understand they can’t give me details, but he said it was a nsw bike, to which point I suggested lismore casino or Kyogle, he had a rye smile but didn’t give me much!

because I found a sticker on the bike that says Wild fire motorcycles Casino!

I tried calling them, but no answer, are they still open? Anyone on here from that area?

TMR said try the dept of infatructure imports section

or the local police to enquire about surrogate vin plate!

Old mate suggested he thinks it came into the country as a spare chassis, but that don’t explain the plate that was obviously on it being removed !

I think I should just get another chassis, but after being in the hunt, if I have someone’s baby from way bike, that was stolen and crashed, I’d like to return it to them ! 229EC4FA-361E-42EB-831E-9C7C7634AA2E.jpeg 99684A10-302D-451F-BB75-55BC186B57F2.jpeg

Use that email , ask them to provide proof of import , it took me 3 weeks or so before they replied , if it is not stolen then a surrogate vin would be a good option
