G'day people, (totally new to this forum)

    Just a quick question -

ive recently picked up a ZXR 250 1990 model and it starts 1st time with the choke ON. However after a few minutes of warming up - as i ease the choke off - it will stall once the choke is fully out/off.

There is a little idle screw on the right hand side just under the tank that i have screwed all the way in - however the bike will still not idle on its own without the choke.

    HELP PLEASE?  :)

Have you try cleaning the carbies out. You shouldn't really need the choke in summer. It sounds like a carbie issue but that's about as much as I can help sorry. Good luck mate and let us know how you go.

Welcome to the fourm ZXR250, could be something simple like your airfilter is really dirty, but I would be looking at giving your carbies a clean out. The idle screw should turn clockwise to increase the idle speed, when you turn it, does it feel like there is a small amount of resistance ? I had a set where the idle adjuster was worn and would spin without increasing the idle

    Where are you located ?

    cheers

    Chris

    G'day Chris.

    Thanks for the response.

The air-filter looks pretty clean. I have also turned the idle screw clock-wise all the way in.... to the point where there is quite a bit of resistance, however the bike will still stall with the choke off and will not idle. Having said that - i can still ride the bike with the choke off, but i have to be very careful to keep the rev's up all the time.

Initially i made the mistake of un-screwing the idle screw all the way out (anti-clock-wise) and it eventually came out of the hole. But since i fixed that, its now all the way in with quite a bit of resistance.

How would you recommend cleaning out the carbies and with what products?

    Im located in Melbourne.

Hey ZXR250, I have a spare set of carbies at home, I will try and knock up some instructions and post them up.

Out of curisoity, do your carbies cut out when revving them ?  ie between 6000 -8000 rpms

    thanks

    Chris

Thanks Drat - right on! nothing worse than stalling at the lights.

Thanks Chris - the bike runs fine and flies through each gear without an issue. Sounds great too. The only issue is that it won't idle in neutral or when the clutch is held in, which means im either stalling at traffic lights or having to rev the hell out of it to keep it running.

would be awesome if you could post up some knock-up instructions, thanks mate.

Does anyone know where i can get a fairing kit for a 1990 model zxr250? or even just maybe parts of the fairings? Ive had a look on ebay and they are all at least $600..... but id be happy to get some from a wreckers and just re-spray them but i dont know where to look.

You could try asking Kiffsta, he may have some fairing. Hope you get the issue sorted. Nothing worse than stalling all the time :)
Also I have moved this topic the the mechanical issues section.
