Hi all, I’ve got an A model I’m working on at the moment. It was put in storage by prev owner for 15 years with all its fluids in it, which has made a bit of a mess. I’m going over the cooling system now and I’ve replaced the radiator with one from a C model as the original was f***’d, water pump seems ok but there was a fair bit of rusty crap inside it, some of which was from the drain bolt (which the end had rusted off) and the remainder I suspect from the steel elbow with bleed nipple that connects the water pump hose to the engine hose… which is totally rusted out. I’m wondering if there’s any other steel components in the cooling system anywhere I don’t know about which I ought to check out? Also if anyone has one of those elbows they’d be willing to part with I could use another!

Oh.. no not yet but I bet it’s rusted up pretty bad! Bike doesn’t overheat though so more like it’s rusted away to nothing. Where does it live exactly? I’d assumed it was behind the flange where the top rad hose goes onto the block but the parts diagram seems to suggest otherwise?

Hmm it seems that someone has removed it in the past, there’s no thermostat in there! It’s an A1 motor in an A2 frame but part numbers on impex same for both. Looks like I’ll need to order me a thermostat
