Recently bought a 1989 ZXR250 and have only just started having clutch issues after just putting in a new battery. Have noticed that when I engage the clutch it makes a rattling noise then stops making noise when disengaged. When I purchased the bike a few months ago it never made any rattling noise, however after replacing the battery it became more noticeable for some reason.
Planning to take off the clutch cover to see what the issue may be.

Hmmm. I would be taking the clutch cover off to have a look at that pretty quick smart.
I would describe that as a bit more than a rattle.

Maybe someone with specific ZXR experience will respond shortly.

    Peter.

Sounds more like a cam chain to me.

Update: Took off clutch cover and found that the bearing inside the clutch plate had come loose and was rattling around the clutch pin.

Are you talking about the actuator shaft bearing on the cover, or the bearing inside the pressure plate?
