If your having to use choke all the time then it has an air leak and needs the extra fuel from choking to keep the mixture where the engine will run.

Yeah I'm thinking air leak still too, I've fitted the Litetek kit so that rules out that at least.
I guess replace all the vacuum hoses is next step

Maybe intake funnels but they look ok as far as i could see

    Can you test the compression?

If it ran fine at first then you needed choke, you mightn't be get fuel to the carbies. Taps or floats, perhaps?

When you say taps you mean fuel tap?

The carbs would have been bone dry when i connected up, set the new tap to prime for a few minutes first and then put to on (checked it opened on vacuum and it did)
I did set the float heights as per the manual but not sure how accurate that method is :D

How long do the bowls take to empty? I probably ran it about 30 seconds off choke, then maybe 90 seconds trying with choke altogether

    Couple videos
First one is when it idled at 2k with no choke, lasted 30-45 seconds tops

Second one, choke on revs jump to 5k, choke off they drop to like 1k then dies a couple seconds later (adjusting the idle screw made no difference)
Carb butterflies were bench synched with feeler gauge only so far
Mixture screws all set to 2.5 turns out

Ok, todays diagnosis seems like its definitely sucking in air, looks like the intake funnels
Sprayed some carb cleaner onto the intake funnels while it was running and the revs jumped etc

Did you spray into or onto? To check for leaks at the intake adaptors (connection between carb and head) the usual technique is to spray water onto the outside of the adaptors while the bike is running. If it is sucking in air around the adaptors the engine not will change.

Ah i sprayed carb cleaner onto the adapters and it made the revs jump up (my mate said if its sucking in air then the carb cleaner on the intakes will make the revs change)

Sorry yeah onto, typo on previous post

yep. Sounds like an air leak at the adaptors to me. You should be able to isolate which one(s) are leaking.

To be honest, they almost look brand new to me apart from a couple suspicious marks, but not perished to me, tried to bend a little see if any holes appear around the top but nothing

I will say, one wasnt very tight at all, and again somes tried to glue them down with silicone sealant .

I might clean them up and try again, am i right saying no sealant at all?

All that sealant isnt going to help seal them one bit .... thats a rubber o ring and thats wat seals them when tightened down .... clean all that junk off and any left on the engine side
the orings dont look completely squashed flat so maybe they could be replacements

when ready to refit , smear a little rubber grease on the o rings and on the top inside where the carby sits ... makes it easier for carby in and carby out

Completely agree bud, whoever bodged this bike up the first must of gone through a couple tubes of sealant haha

Yeah I'll give them a clean up and hope that it works first off, not sure about the orings, are they replaceable orings or is it the way the rubber has been machined?
(Feels like they are solid in place so part of the rubber or siliconed in...)

Replace the o rings. Not worth the hassle of trying to reuse. Make sure the adaptors are actually flat where they mate with the head. The o ring will take small irregularities but it is not a gap filler. I have successfully made up custom aluminium adaptors and sealed with silicone to the head. But they were non flexible and machined dead flat.

Ah yeah fair enough, my mate has suggested that someone's potentially siliconed them as a temporary/bodgy fix
