Hi guys am having issues with timing my ZXR250RR which I believe to be the reason I cannot get it to start . Can someone clarify the correct wat to set the cam timing as when I set the timing marks up correctly then add the cam chaim tensioner the marks are then out. what am I doing wrong? cheers
ZXR cam cap is one piece so makes it harder, but try to set the exhaust cam first with all the chain slack pulled to the inlet side. As you bolt down the cam cap it compresses the valve springs and the cams move down to seat, so what looks right might be advanced or retarded one tooth, so you will need to play with setting them what looks to be one tooth out but will come out correct with the cams fully seated.
The manual has a pretty good description on how to do it, exhaust mark lined up even with the top of the casing then 29 pins till the intake mark or something like that.

always rotate the crank in the direction it runs... keep the slack on the tensioner side. sometimes it helps to shove a screwdriver or extension bar in the tensioner hole to keep things tight... align cams just before marks so they pull up to the marks. regardless of what it is...
