Well, I've been lurking around here for a while now and decided it was time to get a 250 (because it was cheap) and create something completely original (read, not original at all) ha ha. So I trawled the internet for a few weeks until this little zook popped up cheap enough for the missus to let me buy ha ha :-( (not a joke) ;-) The previous owner had done a lot of,,,i suppose you could call it work...he basically painted everything black and hacked the wiring loom up :-( But I'll upload some pics etc as i go along. I want to have it running and registered by XMAS this year Well, this is where it is at. The bike is now completely stripped and I am rebuilding the hacked wiring loom...did I mention everything has been painted **Please note, all I have done so far is pull things off and cry...like the tie wired headlight globe because it isn't the right one ha ha I've cleaned the Carbs and disassembled the Brake caliper, ready for my new seeal and piston kit etc
I haven't got an exhaust at all except for one completely rusted out header :-( I cranked it over using just the starter after pulling apart the starter solenoid and repairing it. She cranks over very nicely. The PO claims to have rebuilt it :-/ but we'll see. I'm in the process of pulling all the **** off the frame and getting it organised etc...The wiring is pretty foul, lots of spliced and joined wires seemingly for no reason. Tomorrow I'll be working on the original gauge cluster, to see what I can do with it
Mate, you've been busy !! Upsets me no end when people hack wiring looms ....so not needed. Good luck with the rest and remember there is light at the end of the tunnel.
No luck hear, there about $400 new. a lot of suzuki parts are interchangeable a quick look around found these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SUZUKI-GS-500-EXHAUST-01-MODEL-/321870257406?hash=item4af0f65cfe unlikely they are a bolt on replacement but a message to the seller could give you measurements that's a start. cheaper to buy another bike in most cases can you post a pick of the header you have?
This is a pic of my header I have here. And this is what I achieved today, Custom Gauge cluster (holderer lol) Relocated my ignition barrel Polished the clutch cover Polished the magneto cover and started on the fins etc Lots of stuff to do still Thanks for reading! Anyone on here make exhausts in South east Queensland?
So I've been fiddling with paint Ideas... I'm not a big talker, I'll the pictures explain. I've also lined up my 1 header...I really need to get my hands on the flanges/collars that hold the header pipes onto the head any help? Thanks and enjoy the photos
So I've almost finished my gauge setup. I'm using the original gauges and face plate, but I fabbed up my own backing plate and bracket in conjunction with parts from the original. The guy in the photos is my old man ha ha a bit crazy sometimes! I still have to put my LED's in etc I used some spacers to get the gauges mounted as low as I could without fouling on the headlight bucket
ifd you take your existing header to an exhaust shop that has a bender they should be able to bend you new ones out of stainless tubing in no time.on the megelli they have a copper crush ring so that should help you out. i would try a bearing shop for them.
Yea good work on the gauges put your old man to work in the garage ... that will take the smile off his face
So I finished the gauge cluster, just need to do the wiring etc. Also been working on the riding position, clubman bars will be here soon and hopefully I'll work something out for the rearsets. Made some good progress this last week. Also turns out my mufflers are off a Harley EVO sportster! and weigh about 38kgs each ha ha I'll use them because they are there
Well,,,,,,,I decided to start doing the fork seals myself I've never done it before. So far so good. I got them all apart etc easy enough. I'll let you know how it goes! Also decided to clean up the horrific paint job on the forks...the PO thought he could just rattle can straight on the alloy and it didn't stick properly etc etc I'll upload some pics soon hopefully!
