Yeah, I'll be able to check all that when I pull them to bits...

And if your going to Litetek them we need to check the jet housing to ascertain if they are actually 3LN3 carbys

I haven't ordered any carb kits yet (waiting for the 3LN6-7) but I do have the fuel tap bits on the way. Hopefully they'll get here before you get back

I've been reading through Brian's thread, specifically the saga about the float height on the mikuni carbs.

It's definitely doing the same chugging, you have to stop, hold WOT and slowly back off until the revs pick up again. Choke does nothing.

I got stuck in an underground car park because each time I tried to go up it would start chugging or die! Had to roll down the bottom, get it going, and go uphill with some speed

    Float height needs investimagation.

PS: Post from Ruckusman/Glenn in Brian's thread

Yes, and I think this is what my problem is... I just bought a set of carbs, and guess what the owner said.... (he told me the needles and seats ar buggered..)

il go in this week and get a quote for postage this week. they will run the bike. I only took them out last night and I ran the bike at a competition on Friday night. they just flood the bike if the revs get down around 2000rpm.

    Re Grey's spare carbs
Note: I was using a spare set of Grey's carbs before, and no chugging problem.. the only prob with those carbs is it was very hard to start the bike, but once started, seemed to run fine but with fast idle...

Hard to start and a hanging idle is usually always too lean on mixture screws.

Sometimes I wonder about doing a fuel injection conversion and pissing off the carbs entirely, but where would the fun be in that?

Well, the fun would be in riding the bike and not caring :D

The web is littered with stories of people trying to do EFI conversions, spending loads of money and then dwindling away to nothing. Have not seen many success stories. EFI has its own Achilles' heel. The control unit will crap out like all electronic boxes and then you have to find another one or use a generic item. That will be coming up soon on second hand bikes with EFI.

Agree with Blair on the EFI conversion, have done a couple of cars and never got the results that were hoped for. An EFI motor is designed for the injection system and just plonking some throttle bodies and injectors on will never be as good as original.

Phil, where is the sense of achievement is pressing the button and it goes, and goes, and keeps on going forever? Be just like a modern car!

I have found the biggest problems with carbs on bikes is cleanliness, and people fiddling changing things and thinking they know better than the factory that spent $$$$$ getting it right in the first place.

Blair, please accept my apologies for my response last night. After falling asleep watching the idiot box, thought I'd check the forum. Alas, I missed the word "conversion" and jumped the gun. I am a fan of EFI bikes, just enjoy how well it works.
Chris and I looked in to fuel injecting an Across many moons ago but couldn't wrap our heads around what was out there and of course with no guarantees ???? The more I read on the subject the less inclined I am.

No worries Phil. Always happens when you can't have a face to face conversation with someone and I have a pretty thick hide anyway :)

Oh, I forgot to mention - when I opened one of the carbs up, there were a couple of dead ants in there... :headbang:
