Zeal to the rescue? Zeal countershaft is same as 3LN3 = 1HX-17421-02 Sprocket is 3YX-17460-00 http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/hirochi/3yx-17460-00.html
First move would be a Yammy dealer with the Zeal part # That sprocket could be on ATVs , jet skis, snowmobiles ...anything
Lots of Zeal owners complaining about being sold the wrong (thin) sprocket too. Well at least it is progress. I am confident that the Zeal sprocket will be the right thickness. Need to also check the offset too.
Ooops! I was trying to find a pic of the other side. Could still be ok it has a shoulder on both sides. But then again offset looks like about 5mm. A bit more than your pic of the 3LN3. The pic in the 3LN parts book is dished too. Not that it means much.
So the plot thickens .... just a little Pulled the sprocket off the 3LN6 and it was the same .... 13 tooth as well Now the interesting and stupid thing I found was a spacer behing the sprocket ....... stupid because with that and the 9MM sprocket , the nut was only on a few turns and on backwards ..... and the lock washer wasn't folded up either .... but that's POs , or mechanics , for u. So my first thoughts were .... maybe the spacer is a genuine Yamaha part to compensate for the longer shaft used for the later models ..... which would explain why the sprocket part # is the same for all models..... in other words the 7mm sprocket +/- spacer fits all models. But the parts catalogue shows no such spacer ...... as much as this one fits on the shaft its not a 'perfect' fit and obviously its not a special design to fit in the splines ..... maybe its a ring in. The last event of the day was to fit spacer + flat 7mm sprocket + lock washer and nut to the 3LN3 ...... Did it tighten up .... yes Will it work .... maybe Is it correct ...... Im not convinced
I know what you mean Mr Grey. The final drive is the last place you want to have bodgy bits. Has anybody ever had any luck trying to ask the Yamaha factory questions?
I'm sure you've thought of this but is the spacer that goes over the shaft and into the seal removable? If it is they could be different lengths
Thanx @The Wizard .....I hadn't checked that ...will do The good and bad news of the day At the Yammy dealer today ..... Zeal sprockets available ..... no info on wat width they are but at $80 each .... wat bullshit I had the mechanic on hand as he was doing a rego on the Fizz .... cranky ***** that he is. He said the 9mm sprocket from the 3LN3 is a 520 chain sprocket I had a suspicion that could be the case as the pictures of that sprocket in the online 520 kits had the extra width And the 520 kits always have smaller teeth sprockets But the thing is the rear sprocket was a 428 .......no idea wat the chain is ..... interesting to see wat rear sprocket is on the 3LN6 He reckons u cant mix and match as the wheel wont even turn ..... after I said Ive ridden the bike with that setup he obviously couldn't figure it out , so went off half cocked as per usual ..... fuk I hate mechanics.... condescending wankers So it looks like some intense googling is required to find some answers. At least my Fizz is registered for another year.
A 520 chain has a 5/8" inch pitch and the 428 has 1/2". Of course the chain could not run on those two different types and he is obviously wrong. I used to be a mechanic and I don't think I was a condescending ******, unless I got the "I only brought it to you, the rip-off bastard, because I don't have the tools. Otherwise I would fix it myself and don't tell me what you think is wrong with my bike because I already know everything" attitude. Of course, I understand why a lot of people had that attitude, but once the pissing contest was put aside, a lot of my customers became very good friends. How about sending an email to Yamaha Japan?
Hey grey I have had some luck contacting Yamaha UK tech dept so if you give me some details I could try them for you see if the part numbers are wrong as Blair pointed out you might need to clarify
Ok, an update from the Fizzer Factory. Quite a few things been done on the Grasshopper FZR: Front and rear brakes refurbed, cleaned and bled, screen fitted (even though it's not the correct screen, we kind of made it fit, exup valve and headers fitted and adjusted (see Grey at work below), front and rear wheel bearings replaced with new ones, new sprockets fitted (chain to go on today), front brake stop light switch replaced, exhaust cleaned up and fitted... most of the work performed by Chief mechanic with the apprentice delegated menial tasks...lol... First of all, here's the proof that lot's of work has been done...
