Hi, I just picked up a Yamaha SR250 to fix up. Early days yet so at the moment the frame is stripped down and I'm starting the cleaning process.
Michael. Are you going back to factory look's or another direction ?. The fun begins chasing part's that are needed , for me , i love chasing those elusive part's that are near impossible to find. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/st-...0-1987-srx250-1984-rolling-chassis/1290825349 https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/st-...ts/yamaha-sr250-1982-wrecking-bike/1232756582
Hi, I'm going to keep it as stock as I can, polish the shiny bits, stock airbox and seat. Tank I'm not sure of, some rust so it might be replaced. There's no way I'm using the stock handlebar, it feels too much like a bicycle I had in the 70s.
Good to hear it's going back to O.E , well except for the bar's , i'd swap them them too !. The tank can be re-lined if it's not rusted out. The link's for the wrecking yard supplied , he's a good guy to deal with , he's description of part's are honest , has been for me anyway. I'f you need a hand looking for N.O.S or S/H , just ask. Have you a workshop manual / part's fiche yet ?.
Hi Michael,I would second 2valve's advice on the tank, especially with this rare of a bike. I just got my FZR tank back from the panel man after getting it lined with "Red Kote" , and it should last forever. This stuff really loves to stick to rust so it should arrest any corrosion. Obviously do a leak test first to make sure there's no pinholes etc . All the best , look forward to seeing it up and running
