Hi everyone just wanted any help I can get .need advice on what to do Just took the right side cover off my mc22 1990 and replaced the stator assembled everything and now I can't change gears every thing seems to be working as it should be , i saw some posts on the same problem but they were old and couldn't find any information on how to fix the problem. I'm a newbie at doing mechanical **** on this bike anyone that has had the same issues with this would much appreciate your help and advice on how you solve this I've taken the side cover off eight times after dumping the oil each time and checked it all out to see if everything is in order but to no avail just about ready to torch the mother frocker at wit's end help me please ? Sorry to waffle on cheers vibes
Hey jmw76 thanks 4 the reply . Well all was working fine when replaced stator and put side cover back on started up bike and did a test ride bike was running best it has but noticed an oil leak in old gasket so replaced with new . Put new gasket on and replaced side cover did clutch cable back onto clutch arm ! Bobs your uncle. Same way i had done before refilled oil . Now I can't change gears down. Ride it done the street changing up to top gear but go to change down won't click down again have done this procedure at least 8 times now I'm baffled as what it could be.as I said the first time I did this clutch was great .that's the problem
G'day Murdo yeah takes off like it should just can't shift down once I shift up from any gear from second to sixth as I say shifting up seems normal. As I said on first Post I ran across an old post on Reddit with guy who was having same issues and according to him he only was replacing the gasket but didn't have an answer to how this was fixed! Hey guys if I'm a bit slow on replying I'm new to tablet and internet. computer illiterate Is what I'm saying much like my mechanical skill it seems ! Cheers Murdo
Bikes can upshift 2nd to top without the clutch ... downshifting not so much I would be checking clutch operation Disclaimer : Ive never owned a Honda!
Well if the clutch is working as it should then there must be a problem with the shifting mechanism. Does the shifter and linkage move to down shift the gears ok? Does it bind anywhere? Do the rods on shifter clear the footeg and frame ok?
I know that on some Honda's there is a dimple on the actuator shaft and the lever and they need to be lined up or you will have all sorts of issues... not entirely sure of the reason. I had it with my CB400 Vtec. A PO had decided to change the pedal postion and rather than alter the linkage he just undid the actuator lever and moved it a few notches... it was horrible until i lined up the dots... then it was perfect.
Thanks for the feedback will have another look. And the shifter I'll have a sqizz at that. Doesn't seem to be hitting or binding on anything just doesn't wont to click in to next down shift I've tried everything I can think of but may have to check out shifter rod and springs cheers guys. Any information on how to post photos on this website we're on would greatly appreciate as I have no idea, I have a never done this stuff before cheers !
