Well if it's never been replaced, it's 20+ years old. Same goes for the rocker cover one. Since I have new ones they may as well get thrown in while they have the engine in bits.
Hang on, if the head does not need to come off, don't do it... it will just burn a hole in your pocket for zero return.. head gaskets don't need changing unless there is a problem... rocker cover gasket is simple.. head gasket is not
That's what I thought. 2nd from top. I should go and do that on mine, I think it's the last piece of the puzzle...
Well I went to the bike shop... I did speak to them and they said bring it in. When I got there they didn't want to work on it. Must have changed their minds. Came back and went to the local guy, he was more than happy to look at it. So will bring it round to him monday with all the fairings off again FZR rode well, but I think it was getting warm. Temp gauge was about 1/3. Rattle gets quieter as you get moving. Definitely not lacking in power. It didn't flood or bog on me.
When I took my fzr to a guy who's shop was called *** performance bikes he said he won't work on it yet had a few scooters and postie bikes he working on some ppl are just lazy and feel they don't need the work even though they say they are a performance bike shop they only like brand new or simple things(like themselves)
Yeah I agree, I don't see how an FZR is any different to a modern 4cyl 4 stroke. Example CB400SF, VFR/RVF400's, etc. Just pure laziness I had time this morning so I took all the fairings off (I put them back on yesterday) and rode it over to the local guy. Explained to him what I want done and handed him all the parts. While he has no valve shims, he will check the clearances for me (provided him with the specs, thanks @GreyImport ) and I can order the shims.
I had all the essential parts except for valve shims and feeler gauges. Cam chain, tensioner and rocker gasket and they still didn't want to touch it. That's fine though, I'll just never go there again
thats it mate, the older they get the harder it is for dealers to get them. but then you have the issue of some shops that want nothing to do with older bikes, some are the same when it comes to track and race bike they just see them as trouble they don't want.
