    Hey all,

I recently acquired a zxr250a and have been riding it religiously since I bought it. It was only when I got home today where when I went to turn the bike back on, it showed no signs of life, it wouldn't display any lights or anything with the ignition on.

All the battery connections and fuses looked good. It was when I checked the 30a starter fuse where I noticed it looked a bit funky. It turns out it obviously melted and fused the plastic together and the fuse is stuffed. I was just wondering that if this occurred, would a bad starter fuse cause no life in the bike or would it just not turn the starter relay over?

Also if I grab this replacement switch (https://www.xcitebikes.com.au/starter-solenoid-plug-cnt02/ ), would I be able to just remove one of the wires as mine only requires 3.

Also... I have a spare solenoid kicking about but its a 20a instead of 30a, would there be any issues with running with this lower fuse? Thanks!

The fuse associated with the starter solenoid is a fairly standard configuration on many bikes.
The fuse is usually for the main electrics, it is not just for the starter solenoid.
The issue you have experienced is as a result of heat build up in the area. Usually as a result of poor connections to the fuse holder and/or a fuse that is underrated for the job. Changing to a lower value fuse certainly will not help the situation, if it doesn't just blow instantly.
Check the spade terminals that connect to the fuse holder. These often make poor contact over time. Replace them with new good quality ones, assuming that the connector assembly is actually salvageable.
