With being a complete noob when it comes to bikes i started off a bit shy, but have pulled apart the carbies and cleaned them, may need need new float needles (the bits with the circlip that attatch to the float) they were almost welded into the fuel inlet, patched holes in the tank with kneed it and sanded them flat ready for a paint job, getting a new fuel on/off cock, new battery and a clean. Its still pretty dirty and i think the carbies need some adjusting, ie float level, the air/fuel mix but other than that the main thing i need is a blue slip! Damn tazzie riders! Ill get some photos of her tonight and put some up for you guys.

    Hi F1dz! Welcome to forums.

I started out much like yourself at the beginning of the year. You'll get hooked pretty quick!

Some info that might help you. DEFIANTLY get new needles and needle seats they fixed HEAPS of problems with my bike

    http://www.motorcyclespareswarehous...roducts/khv-24l24-float-valve-needle-and-seat

Your float height manages the fuel amount available to the engine, 13mm is the standard. Higher floats= Leaner running, Lower = Richer Note that the float height changes this across the whole rev range.

So if it's too rich on the low or high end only there are a few other mods you can do. Check this out if you want to know more.

    Good luck and enjoy it!

:welcome:, you are in good company as there are many members with A models. By your description you need a set of needle and seats, carbs can be a pain but once sorted will get you mobil. The manuals will give you all the correct settings for your carbs. Good luck with your project, don't be shy and post some photo's of your bike.:thumb_ups:

    Cheers Doug and Phil!

I cant get on Youtube atm as im at work, bloody network filter! but am keen to know about any mods i can do to her along the way, not so cosmetic (tho i do like the look of the street fighters!) more so performance and sound. But i do love the look of the stock bike as my avatar! Reading thru the manual as we speak, steep learning curve, and cheers for the link to new carbie bits!

Hopefully the fuel leak will be fixed and i can get her rego'd, about fuel tank lining, has anyone got tips or people to see about it? Id prefer to do most of the work myself but if its involving special tools or chemicals then ill leav it to a pro...

    Thanks :)

Bit of a discussion here about tank liners .... :thumb_ups:

    http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/petrol-tank-sealing-kits.1455/#post-9735

Always remember its an old bike so u have to expect things to need fixing or replacing ,especially if its had a dubious past ...... but as Doug mentioned you will get into it and theres alot of satisfaction from doing it yourself .... u also learn a great deal about your bike along the way.

Cheers for the link! Hmmm, its somthing to think about, theres only surface rust in mine, but there were holes down near the loops that house the rear fairings that looked like someone had taken a drill too? Any ideas besides getting sick of water being in your tank? Im stumped coz its not that hard to get the water out?
Ive been working on my Landcruiser for the last few years and got sick of how big the bloody thing is, its great to work on somthing that you dont have to walk around to get to the other side!

Or have to crawl under for 90% of the work! ..... Ive had mostly 4WDs all my life (Landrovers mainly) and Im over that stuff ..... give me a bike any day :D

Holes drilled in the tank? .....why doesnt that surprise me :commando: ..... no idea on why though.
    Any photos of it?

My Fizzer tank only had light rust so I emptied it and run the sinkers around in it and flushed it out a million times ..... it had a lot of crap inside it and the internal filters were dirty.

Nah no pics as I filled them in with kneed it and have already sanded it back already, but they were all perfectly round, just annoying.
Yup done my share of crawling around under my 80 series! Over it hey!
Just keen to start riding the old girl! Tomoro will be the day she should be ready! So excited!
