Hi there guys. What kind of oil filter are people running? The manual does not specify. Options seem to be either 13 buck Ryco or 20 buck K & N. Cheers
Go to any bike shop or car spares shop even and ask for one of these ...they are used on many many things. http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=hf303 zxr&_osacat=0&_from=R40&LH_PrefLoc=2&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xhf303 zxr250&_nkw=hf303 zxr250&_sacat=0
Ended up getting a genuine Kawasaki one for 12 bucks. Changed to Fully synthetic 10w 60 too and dang what a difference it makes ay
yeah not too sure. Manual specifies 10w 50 but there was no fully synth so i went for the heavier stuff. Should be ok no? especially once it gets hot? Ive read a lot of mixed reports on this subject
Thats cheap Can u post up a pic of wats on the box and /or the filter itself ...interested to know how generic or genuine it is
The second measurement refers to the viscosity at 100C and most evidence suggests that a higher grade is better at high temps Having said that, it seems that non-bike specific oil may not be compatible with wet clutches. this might explain why my clutch has been randomly slipping at 12-14 thou rpm
Correct ..... u need motorcycle specific oils as they dont have 'friction modifiers' or wateva other such junk they put in car oil.
Yep. Just called my mates uncle who works for Castrol. Turns out that if you run car oil at high rpm in a wet clutch, the plates can glaze over and become useless. Spewing, I was absolutely thrashin it over the weekend. Anyway, will dump tonite. Back to the motul 5100 10w 40
While Im at it, what is the story with the drain plug? There was no washer on it. Manual says there should be a gasket, there wasnt one either. Should i put some liquid gasket on it?
No .... it should be wats called a crush washer ..... u re use it till its totally flattened out or damaged so to speak. gives u a good seal and makes it easier to undo the plug next time round A normal copper one will do the job also Something like this
Ah sorry mate couldn't find the box. Just cable tied the fairing back on, so will have to wait till next time it comes off for a pic lol. Found out the part number though it's 160970008
Definately mate ..... but I think there is still alot of Jap bike parts made in Japan .... maybe just not something as throw away as a filter. But then theres this one ....
