Poor Ninja. Compression but no power? And a rattle? Check your valve timing, maybe. Hope it's not too severe.

    Started on replacing the radiator.
As usual, the day ended with the job 1/2 done. :D

The mirrors are off 'cos the H bracket needs a panel beat and paint.

New radiator bought on Aliexpress for $65 USD.

Looks OK so far. Will find out how well it works soon enuff.

I broke it... Done a big end by the sounds of it :help:

Was out on the back roads for a run and then a noise started, wheel locked up and it started fishtailing... tried a lower gear, same thing. Pulled over and killed engine. Waited for a bit and tried to start... no go, didn't want to flatten the battery again. Thankfully someone with a ute stopped and got me & the bike home.

Don't think it's the top end... still has compression and starts but anything higher than idle and its ticking.

Maybe I should stay away from Yamaha's... I seem good at breaking them :headbang:

Would think so... but its been fine for a week and not just at low revs either... maybe tensioner **** itself, but then the valves would have kissed the pistons, and there'd be no compression at all.

Either way... won't know till I pull it apart... again.

From the vid the noise sounds to be more top end than bottom. Don't give up until you know what the problem is.

Tidied up the workshop and cleaned the thermostat, ready for reassembly. Just need to order some new parts. I thought maybe I could flip the seal over but it's flat as a tack. Probably the original seal from 1991.

Goal is to get the MC22 back on the road and the MC21 firing and ready to ride.

Started dis-assembly... Drained oil and it had some glitter. Oil filter off and around its edge by the gasket it had 1 or 2 flakes. Definitely a big end problem.

@elijahbate called me Friday and offered me his ZXR250 collection which consisted of an A and a C model in parts. I left at 6am this morning and hit the road which involved a 6.5 hour round trip from Brisbane to Casino and back again.

Im pleased to say the A model has fired up and ran on 3 pots, I daresay the carbs need a good clean. Its interesting as the bike has a c model engine, c model gauges wiring and cdi. Im looking forward to getting her on the road, but not until I finish a few others.
