I set up my Zinc Plating kit last night... probably still a little cool to get the best finish but did a couple of items just to see how it would go. I forgot to take before pics... doh. This pic shows another identical bolt as well as the one plated... that was the first item and the amps were a touch high but it polished up OK A spacer from the front wheel of the SL125 and one from the rear wheel. Parts that will be more exposed will definitely get a better preparation but at least they are plated and protected.
They came up pretty good , considering how they where in the first place. Keeping and using the O.E bolt's is the way to go. I was pretty lucky not needing to many new bolt's , but that zinc plating kit would have been very useful.
And last one for the day... these are the brake arms from the SL125. The front one didnt come up as nice as I would have liked. Before and after shots. They were both wire brushed prior to the plating process.
New seals and oil. Took steering head off, cleaned and will lube and then reassemble it all this weekend.
still working on getting the MC19 healthy. It's runs and revs freely but it wont start without a whiff of throttle and it won't idle until it's well up to temprature. It also hunts a little at idle once it's warmed up. Should I go richer or leaner with the mixture or should I be looking somewhere else?
Recieved and fitted replacement mirrors to the GSXR250. These are Magazi brand from KiWAV.COM via Trademe. Because the mounting is slotted, they are a multi-fit. Lots of different adjustment as well in the arms. They were extremly well packaged with about four layers of bubble wrap and a nice personalised card. Only about 10 days from Taiwan. A happy customer! Booked in for its pre licencing inspection on Wednesday - nearly legal for the road.
Did you try choke? I suspect lean the fuel, but the choke might give a hint. In other news, the plan was to finish the CBR 400 on Saturday, but I replaced the piston ring in the yz, went to a birthday party and rode the yz, instead. That bike scares me, as does any hint of a jump - flashbacks to mountain biking accident. I got enough confidence to corner a bit more, especially after a blast on the 85 (that was fun, not so far to fall). I did do some work to the CBR, got the choke and throttle assembly on after a little shortening of a cable outer. Now to plastic weld a patch and reassemble.
I just had a look at that site and discovered this. Never seen a one piece plain bearing before. https://kiwavmotors.com/en/parts/en...onnecting-rod-for-kawasaki-kx250f-2017-detail
Shims from Precision. Lovely workmanship. Fit like a glove. Waiting for CCT then reassemble camshafts etc when it arrives.
@ShaneP dropped Buzz down to me , last time it had a good run was about 5 years ago Carb clean and she is a runner again
Part of the rack is still there So now a story about how this forum brings good people together it’s a view to picking up hi bikes on his trip down @ShaneP purchased 2 bikes over the past 2 months and organised a trials ride and track day weekend. Shane had to pick up one of his bikes on the way down to Brisbane from rocky and it turns out he got scammed, so no track bike , the other trials bike was picked up by his brother so all good there So yesterday Shane came to see me and was going to cancel his track day due to no bike , I messaged @James Mclaren and he has kindly offered his mc22 to Shane for his trackday. I popped down and picked it up today , fitted the fairings back on and fitted a spare battery, checked the oil and coolant , quick test ride … good to go how cool is this community when like minded people offer up their race bike to members
Shamed by Kiffsta’s and others’ clean work benches, I decided it was time for a clean up. Took the XT outside, gave it a quick degrease, then returned it to the (now clean) stand for a bit more attention. Fitted two new chain guide rollers. Still need to renew the chain slider if I can find one. Unfortunately it seems I need to remove the swingarm to put on a new one. Who thinks that’s good design?( Note Fresh cup of coffee.) Also fitted a rear ‘fender extender’ to the Z900 RS. Arrived yesterday, Just 10 days from China.
@kiffsta beat me to the story (and probably told it better), but a massive shout out to @James Mclaren for lending the bike! A little extra to the bike community story, a couple of other people (who don't know me at all but one the seller), tried to chase up the seller for me! The generosity of such people is quite humbling - especially James!
