Direct quote from the attached Press release (it contains a photo and a track map in addition) The Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland will run Round 2 of the club's 2013 championship, The Southern Downs Road Race Series. July 6th and 7th will see racers descend upon the town of Warwick to compete at the Morgan Park circuit. Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms are available from the clubs website (http://motorcyclesportsmen.com.au). After the huge success of round 1, massive fields, lap records broken and many riders improving on their personal best times, round 2 is eagerly awaited. Entries to round 2 close the 27th of June, getting your entry in early is the best way for you to help your club to run an organised race meeting. So get your entry form filled in and come out and have some fun! Featuring Circuit I (circuit descriptions http://www.morganparkraceway.com.au/circuit.htm). Round 2 will level the playing field, as the circuit has only been used a few times before most riders will have little experience. Superbike, Supersport, Moto3, 250 Production, Supermoto, Junior and Sidecar riders will all be pushing their machinery to the limit to get maximum points in what is the most hotly contested road race series in Queensland. There will be a track day on Friday the 5th of July and a Coaching day run on Thursday the 4th of July, get your entries in quick as coaching and track days preceding a round of the Southern Downs always sell out quickly. If you would like to be involved in helping to run the meeting or know someone who would like to be an official, the club is always looking for volunteers so we can continue running our meetings with high standards of efficiency and safety. I had a planned a ride down to Warwick today, but the lads from work pulled out, so yesterday my wife suggested we head down as a family, suits me !!! We arrived at the main entrance of Morgan Park the track and there were no cars around, my wife is giving me heaps saying we have come on the wrong weekend, I was sure it was on so we drove down the long driveway and found the track, heaps of people there.. winner !!! What can I say about Morgan park, it looks a great track, but its not the best for spectators, we struggeled to find vantage points as the circuit is rather hilly and once the bikes head past, then they are gone until they come around again. The next time I head down to MP, I will be looking for other vantage points. I met up with Trevor who is racing a ZXR250 ( I sold him a few parts), he blew a head gasket on Saturday but had fun while he was out there, I tried a few times to meet Simon aka Simidau, but when I popped over to his area, he wasnt there, although I did see him out on the track. This was the 2nd racing event I have attended and I thought it was really well run. My wife and daughter lost interest after a while and decided to head into Warwick aso that left my Son and I to watch the racing. After a while. we headed up to turn 1 for some photos and my wife pulled up, we were having a chat when the Rookies took to the track for the last race, as they came down the straight on lap 1, the leader started braking in preperation for the corner and the rider in 2nd position smashed into him, (I was 20m away), 2 other riders managed to slip past and ake the corner but a third rider collected the first 2, bikes, fairings and riders were in air going end over end and stopped on the grass near turn 1, it was a massive crash. 2 of the riders were up pretty quick, but the leader who copped it from behind was down and wasnt moving, the marshalls and ambulance arrived quickly and the race leader finally managed to sit up, he was taken away in the ambulance, it was a sobering experience. The Marshalls cleaned up the mess, the race was restarted. I was super impressed, I aw a 10 year old boy on a 70cc race bike (number 66) beat other young riders who were on larger capaicty bikes (80cc-150cc), he was flying !!!! I had heaps of fun and took a few photos, hope you like them. Chris
The weather held out for the week end, great photos Chris. Kinda sorry I didn't go, just too much on, next time. Feel a bit sorry for the guy who got shunted from behind, That's RACING!!!
Awesome, sorry I didn't manage to catch you. Was an absolute magic weekend. The racing was so tight! Great photos, I'd love if you could send me the ones of me and dad - any anyone else on that grid. Cheers Simon
Hey Simon, When you were on the track, the guy on the PA was giving you heaps of Kudo's, ... ie another great move by Simon...!!!, Simon has made up a few spots... he wasnt giving much praise to anyone else but you. Cheers Chris
Great pics Chris! Turns out it wasn't the head gasket that failed on the ZXR. It was the mechanical seal in the waterpump, just about the only part I hadn't replaced, doh! Was still a good weekend anyway.
