When you put in the new plugs, did you reconnect them correctly? It sounds to me like your spark plug wires are out of order.

If that's what the plug wires are labeled, it sounds correct to me.

The best way to get the airbox back on is to fix the boots - get a crockpot from the local rummage sale, then soak them in hot coolant overnight. The conditioners in the antifreeze (which stop your hoses from turning into rocks that burst under pressure) will leave the carb rubbers silky and manageable.

A hairdryer will also soften them and do the trick, but you have to do it each time. If you're tuning your carbs and have the airbox on and off frequently, sorting it out is easiest and less time in the long run.

Avoid petro lubes / oils / greases, as these will attack and harden the boots, leading to hardening and cracking, causing air leaks and making it hard to get the airbox on and off ... <!-- s:alcoholic: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_all_coholic.gif" alt=":alcoholic:" title="Alcoholic" /><!-- s:alcoholic: -->

Just on the plug leads, they go two leads into one coil and one coil does the inner two cylinders and the other does the outer two cylinders.

Have you drained the fuel from the cabs and tanks and put fresh stuff in? Petrol goes stale if the volatile components in it can evaporate, particularly in carbys through the breather vents.

Sorry - just read this again, missed it the first time. The FIRING ORDER is 1-2-4-3, but the PLUG WIRES are numbered 1-2-3-4, and should be installed as such. If you have the #3 wire on the #4 cyl and vice versa, then yeah - silly things are going to happen.
