Well, after all the rumours and passing comments as to the existance of a turbo Zeal it seems that Rapid Bikes have tracked it down and done a little expose in their latest September 2006 issue. I've scanned it up just for everyone who at one point thought about doing something a little crazy with their FZR's.

Not many details on the mechancials but it appears to have used quite a few FZR600 parts to beef up the engine & clutch to take the increased power. Oh, and as for power...

    105 RWHP (45ft-lbs) @ 18,000rpm w/ 18 psi boost.
    12.7 second 1/4 mile @ 118mph.

Also, just so i'm not ripping off Rapid Bikes - this bike is for sale at the moment. Not sure who's selling it but the contact number is (02) 4732 22033. (That looks like too many numbers but thats whats printed in the mag).

lol, that's a lot of work. Although for 4 times the output, that's pretty damn good.

Same power output as an r6, lol. Mind you, it also cost more than an r6, weighs about the same, and is worse in every other way :p

    I want to see an aprillia rs250 turbo'd >:D

The problem (apparently) with the Zeal turbo was that the power came on in one solid kick in the top end which made it a little useless as a twisty machine. It's still a very cool learner legal bike!
Alex: If you can turbo a zeal, you can turbo an FZR.
Casso:I'm not entirely sure on the idea of forced induction on a 2-stroke. Something in my mind says that it wouldn't work because the power of a 2-stroke comes about from port tuning the exhaust pulses, so forced induction would seriously mess with that.

I know that their are plenty of supercharged two stroke diesel engines getting about. It actually helps clear out the chamber and makes it run allot cleaner. I haven’t heard of a two stroke turbo but I guess it could be done, with a lot of money that is.

Probably not so easy on a carburetted 2 stroke - although it might simply be a matter of re-tuning the power valve - but on a direct injection 2 stroke it should be no problem (they already use an air compressor to atomise the fuel). Of course, that's relatively new technology, and atm you only find it on a few outboard motors (Yamaha has one), some 2 stroke diesel engines, and aprilia's latest 2 stroke scooter...

I can't wait to see this technology go into mass production - 2 strokes are a blast to ride.

I think you will find all two stroke diesels are injected, always have been. They wouldn’t work otherwise.
