That's an aftermarket one though, cheap copy, the actual Shindengen ones are the go, or so I've read... That's the standard unit
Yes, those Shindengen units are OEM across quite a few bike brands. A lot of owners were buying them as genuine parts or from wreckers/eBay and you can find this topic on many forums.
bugger, that is a real pain. Cheap Zeal spares ? - http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/fullerton-cove/motorcycles/zeal-fzx-250/1116714547
I did see that one, sent him a message a while ago asking if he wanted to break it for parts, no reply. It's around the same area that I picked this one up from. Might save some money and do another road trip.
I called into Show and Go this arvo and spoke to the dismantler/mechanic, he remember's seeing the Zeal radiator shroud's there (he said they were silver triangular shaped) and he wasn't sure if he gave them to the front counter staff or not. He said he'd have a look in the workshop this afternoon when he finished the job he was on. The counter staff said they'd ring me when they find them, and give me a price too Finger's crossed
New clocks arrived today so spent some time tinkering... fixed the latch for pillion seat, got all the indicators working again after the reg/rec killed them, put the new clocks on and went for a quick ride... Happy to report that all the instruments and lighting are working! I've also found a set of those radiator covers in Japan and have put a sniper bid on them. Hope no one else is chasing them. They're the correct dark silver/black for this colour scheme as well.
This is my Zeal Im from South Africa, when i got it there was no spark(guy didnt plug cdi in) I paid R4000 for the bike.
Nice... I think that equates to about $400 AUD if I used the correct currency. I won the auction on the fairings and also found a genuine zeal tool kit on there as well, and at the right price. This bike's nearly complete. Last thing to do will be a ventura rack before the trip to Texas... and maybe valve clearances
Rare as rocking horse poo... but I got them Mounting tab for the tank on the left one was broken, but nothing a few washers can't fix. I appropriated some bling from the big cheese as well. Next job is to sort the mediocre front suspension... needs new oil & seals, so why not some gold valve cartridge emulators while the forks are apart?
Hmmm.... where we have we seen those exhaust headers before? Those crafty Russians, thinking of everything.
All done with the help of @Murdo once again. FZR headers were a straight bolt on. Then took the M4 pipe and a crappy old gutted standard fizzer exhaust, chopped the bit with the clamp off and had it welded onto the M4 pipe. Also a simple EXUP block off plate. Seems to run fine without the EXUP as the valve timing is different to the FZR, but I want to plug a servo motor into the CDI and see if it operates. Also have more clearance on the swingarm for a rear stand, so that's good. PS Murdo, neutral light working again and able to start without holding clutch switch in. Strange that it wasn't working.
