And they are the same size as the Fizzer? That's lucky.

Yep specifically asked for 7.48mm shim kit. Infact that size shim fits all Japanese 250cc inline 4's. Also fits FZR400, FZR600, and FZR1000

Will have to bear that in mind if my FZR400 needs any.

You can use PricaUSA to get a kit from Amazon, about $120, or the same hot cams kit off ebay for $170 posted. Located in Coffs Harbour. Here's the listing. Keep in mind our kit from the states hasn't been delivered yet. Left Sydney airport on the 12th. Most likely will turn red and jump up and down in anger if it's not here by the weekend.

Changed out the shims with no issues. New valve cover gasket, too.

Naturally, Murphy conspired with the devil to ensure that this happened...

    Oil...

    More oil...

"Right" I thought, "Let's undo the valve cover and take a look" - AHA! GOTCHYA!

Now I did go into Tamworth for a test ride, the bolt wasn't broken off, but must have been weak as it broke when I undid it. The bike goes much better with the clearances done and the clutch cable adjust properly.

Do you need the left hand drills to get the broken bit out?

We thought it'll be safer to just remove the valve cover and change that cam cap with the broken bolt with the matching one from Brian's spare engine.

The cam cap and head will be line bored as an assembly. Which is why I do not think you could buy a cap as a separate part. Best to remove the broken bolt and refit.
    cheers

We removed the cam cap and Dr. Murdo then got the remains of the bolt out... Dad stabbed himself in the finger with a shard of old thread. We found that a few of the valve cover bolts were stretched at the base from over-torque and likely to break, so we replaced them with spares. As always, thanks to Grey have letting us have parts from his spare engine, and using his workshop and tools.

    Voila, no more oil leak.

And....doing the valve clearances within spec made the bike run sweet as a nut...! It's running brilliantly.... so much so that the boys in blue came through cruising the neighbourhood shortly after test runs.... woops....:neo:

Oh definitely. After putting the bike in the garage, we saw the cops roll down the street... someone must have complained.

Why don't you use 'Greys racetrack'?
I am led to believe that your bike will be 24Km/h faster there. :lolsign:

Did I read somewhere you got a new valve cover gasket? Where did you source that?

Mine probably needs replacing as I'm noticing a bit of seepage in places.
