I have a pin hole in my 83' Suzuki GS750ES(this one isn't 250cc,sorry)Mikuni carb slide diaphragm and wondered if anyone would recommend a strong, flexible sealer to fill it until I can afford a new slide. I could possibly use a fine pin to apply it ? thanks
Never attempted to repair one before. But being rubber, I would start with the glue used to repair punctures in tubed tyres. Just buy a repair kit at a bicycle shop or similar. I have used tube repair kits to fix radiator hoses in an emergency before. In fact one of my bikes is still running a patch with no leaks. The hose is now difficult to get. Peter.
Rubber cement? it's an idea & may be possible;am hoping to see if something is impervious to gasoline.
Thinking that polyurethane that is used to install windscreens might work, a dot on both sides, joined through the pinhole might work It's pretty stubborn stuff
I imagine it cures hard so just a small pinhole amount of it could possibly be tolerated on a flexible rubber diaphragm?
Polyurethane sealant (like Sikaflex) doesnt cure hard https://www.allfasteners.com.au/sikaflex-11fc-pu-sealant-fast-cure
Looks like none of the Sikaflex propducts are suitable for use on Fuel for long periods... https://www.cwid.com.au/assets/uploads/18/productcatalogue/datasheets/FLEX-TANK - 504.pdf
Yea I would be looking on Aliexpress for a replacement https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100...-1;9.76;-1;-1@salePrice;AUD;search-mainSearch
If it is literally a pinhole then a tiny drop of superglue should work. Superglue was originally developed for making bespoke O rings so sticks well to rubber. Yes it will reduce flexibility but only very locally.
Yes,it's just a small pinhole. I think the rest of the diaphragm will flex around it and at least the slide will be sealed;I hope it will stay-put considering the gasoline. thanks,Bill
Personally, I would use aquarium-grade silicone. A little smear on each side so they meet through hole should seal and keep repair tight.
