Not really sure if this falls under maintenance but anywhooo... Should my tail light be on when my bike (zxr250a) is turned on but not running? The brake lights work fine but the tail light won't turn on. I didn't really check when the bike was running yesterday but just noticed this morning.

ZXR's also have a "brake" feature.. then the bike is turned of you can go past "Lock" and the parkers come on,.

I'll check it out later. I'll probably have to go through the wiring and check all the connections after I replace the globes.

Just checked it out. The tail lights work in the lock position but no where else.

I tested the brake feature and it all works fine. The tail lights come on and then when I turn the ignition on, the tail lights turn off again. I'm checking all the connections I can find to make sure they are all connected and clean. This is doing my head in :headbang:

Could it be in the ignition switch?

Depends on whether your headlights are on, depending on the year of your bike pre 1989 compliance laws are different and you will still have a lightswitch. Wheras after 1989 they had to be hardwired to be on with the ignition.

It's a 1990 model. There is no light switch but I can see where it used to be. Been checking connections but no luck. I'm guessing there should be lights in the speedo as well?

The headlights come on and brake lights work when the ignition is on and then when I switch it to park the headlights turn off and the tail lights and park lights turn on.

Is the tail light on when the bike is running? I wouldn't worry if that's the case.

    It
I think it might be. Just has a squiz and looks like there are 2 small springs missing that should be pushing a copper terminal down. Should be able to replace them with springs out of pens. If not, looks like I'll be chasing a new ignition switch.

Nope. They will only turn on when the bike is in park. If the ignition switch isn't the problem then I might rewire them.

You won't pass an ACT rego inspection with it like that!

Sounds to me like someone bypassed the light switch. Might be worth trying to source a right hand combination switch that hasn't been butchered and just leaving it on the ON position before you buy a new ignition switch.
Just remember not to leave the ignition switch in the Park position if you don't like flat batteries!

Yeah I know it won't pass. I'm hoping to get it sorted before I get my learners next week.

Are you doing the Pre-Learner course this weekend?

If not, I might have some spare time on the weekend - PM me if you need a hand!

Will the ignition switch and/or right hand control from a c model fit?
