2 spanners as the nuts are tensioned together. do not turn as one as you will tear the inside cable out.

If the starter is off see the state of the stator and drum if you can get it apart

I haven't been able to get the lead off the starter, I'd need a flat/thin spanner to get onto the second nut.

I could possibly pull the starter off and attack the lead second, but I think I'll just roll the bike over to the mechanic who's 50m away from home and get him to do it for me :)

if you have a cheap spanner grind it thinner. or a spanner set from a pushbike mite fit.

Today has been a productive day. I've replaced the starter motor with a new one. The old one is well and truly cactus, I'd say. It doesn't feel anything like the new one when hand turning. The new one also doesn't spin/crank when you cut the ignition, the old one did. Free spinning or something.

It took me 3 hours to do the work. Real bastard of a spot! Hmmm.... bastard motor!?

There was lots of crap underneath the starter because I park outside...

Also had to take this thing on the left off to actually remove the starter

Yeah it went back in fine, no issues, bike runs fine. I didn't touch the rod. I did have to re-adjust the idle after I re-assembled the bike but that was it. Went for a ride to get some fuel (at $1.09/L for 91!!!! ) and some shopping after that

When you come to Tamworth to use your tools, do you recon you might be able to bring some fuel with you? Say 1,000 Litres at that price?

When I went to the VJMC National Rally in S.A. in March, Tamworth had the dearest petrol of the whole trip.
Funny how the servo in Walcha 100Km North of Tamworth can buy the petrol here, transport it to Walcha and still sell it 15 cents/Litre cheaper than in Tamworth?
I usually put enough in here to get me to somewhere else to fill up.
