Help GSX250 - Revs Climb with no input

    Hi Guys,

    Got my bike running, after it warms up a little and sits at idle if I open it up just a tad then let go of the throttle the revs seem to climb and stick for a little before it runs down again. What could be causing this? Only seems to happen once its warmed up.

    Could I be running to lean? Could the slides need replacing? I can't figure it out because i'm a carbie noob.

    A hanging idle is a symptom of a lean idle circuit. Bigger pilot jet or more turns out needed on the screw

    Sounds like its lean on the pilot circuit alright. The air screw setting on most bikes is 1 - 2 turns out from closed. If the adjustment screws are on the engine side of the carb turning them out will allow more fuel flow, if on the airbox side its the opposite. Adjustment range is typically half a turn - 4 turns out, any more or less and you need to change pilot jet size or there is a problem somewhere. You could have an air leak, or possibly a blocked pilot jet. Are the intake boots in good condition? A blocked jet can easily happen if the bike was left sitting a long time & fuel dried in there. Also if they are way out of sync it could cause this symptom too. If you want to try a quick fix take the air filter out and squirt some carb cleaner thru with the engine running, if that doesn't work and you adjusted the air screw screws to no effect, gunna have to get ya hands dirty!

    Firstly I just realised that the bike ONLY ran smoothly with the choke out (lean?) So that means it wasnt getting enough air with the choke in. And I tried just then with the adjustment screws all the way out and still it wouldnt run with the choke in even after warming up. The engine also heated up rather quickly so i'm judging that as lean.

    The jets are all clean and flowing. So I'm saying i'll have to go up a size on the pilot jets? They are the ones on the airbox/intake side of the carb am I right?

    Be sure you don't have an intake leak before you change jets.
