This is Wendy's. http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/cf-moto-250-t-v5.3334/ Now what was this thread about again.......... oh that's right my VT250.
Murdo, I replaced my "35YO" front brake line with a more current unit of 85cm length. I think you'd mentioned using a 90 or 100cm unit in another post, so just wanted to say the 85cm unit fits perfectly on my 1983 bike. Sorry to post on your thread again, but many of the images on my other posts have gone walkabout. Might ask @kiffsta to have a look at the Island Classic 2016 thread images. Cheers
No worries Frank, I haven't been posting any more either because they either disappear or are turned into attachments which don't go with the dialogue.
Have been very slack over the last few months with the bike, but got a surge of interest after doing some painting on another bike (also my hands have been very sore through the winter and have not been inclined to spend hours with sandpaper) and got in and did a bit. After the primer I blasted the light blue of the stripes, then when dry masked it over and blasted the dark blue, masked that and painted the white. I chose to add some pearl to it to make look a bit modern like some current bikes, and that went on well. Left for a while, carefully stripped off the masking and blasted a couple of clear coats. There are a few F**k ups that I will have to go back and correct after a few days to harden, fit the stickers and more clear, but it wont be too bad. I am by no means a professional painter and would not like to do another one, but this will look good at 100Km/h.
You've been busy. Both the MEC and VT are coming together nicely. Would you make another MEC if someone wanted one?
Will you register the MEC? At least stamp "MEC001" somewhere on the chassis. You've made a wonderful bike. Sorry, wrong thread...looking forward to seeing both running.
Was having a good day putting all my nice newly painted bits onto the bike. Fitted the tank after going and getting new lines, clips and a filter. Tightened the bolts and put about five litres of fuel in, was about to start the engine when I could see fuel dripping on the floor. Tank off and found the tap leaking from under the gasket. Made new gasket and put some 'Stag' sealer on it and refitted it all again thinking all was good. Added the fuel and again a leak. Off with the tank and could see a drip coming off the end of the valve. On closer inspection found a rivet had let go and was letting the pressure off the valve allowing it to leak. I drilled out the remaining rivet and tapped the holes for a 3mm thread and reassembled with two screws. Fitted everything again (gotta be right now) but it still had a slight weep. In desparation ( I wanna take this thing for a ride) I made a flat plate from 4mm steel and silver braised a 8mm copper tube into it, fitted with new gasket and sealer and finally got it fuel tight. Have no way of turning fuel off, but will get it going until I can get a new tap. Get this fuel tap sorted and some rego and we'll be on the road.
Have got it all together (still no fuel tap) and took for a short test. Will need a few things adjusted but all good.
As per usual @Murdo... Love your work !! Bike looks awesome, will we see her in Texas ??? Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
Thanks Phil and Brian. Working on getting to Texas, but will depend on whether the new fuel tap gets here in time.
Haven't had much chance to ride yet, but seems to be a good ride. Very smooth engine and V twin growl. Was surprised at how quick it turns into a corner with the small front wheel and 'quick' geometry. Had to lift it back up a couple of times and have a second go at the corner.
New fuel tap arrived today. Went to pull it apart to get the bits I needed to fix mine and the 'aftermarket copy' is not a very close copy, none of the seals will fit. Back to trawling the 'bay again, so sorry guys, will not be taking to Texas.
