Hello, I've got a 1983 VT250FD which is leaking oil from the push rod seal. I've replaced the seal and it still leaking from the centre of the seal. I was wondering if this is because the push rod has been repaired by the PO and when they have welded it they have made the shaft straight and removed the cavity in the shaft. Time for a new pushrod?
Welcome to the forum. Yes, you need to replace the push rod with the correct one. You might like to check the length of your push rod and post it on this thread. The following image is of push rods I took out of 2 separate bikes (VT250F). Not sure if Honda made two separate rods for the VT250F, but I would think it is unusual for a Hydraulic Clutch to have different length rods from the factory when the engine is the same and, to my knowledge, so are the clutch baskets and clutch packs.
Not 100% sure, but I will try and find out and post ASAP. I guess there is something inside the engine at that position that may need some space to function properly. I think the manual says "don't put it in the wrong way" but doesn't explain why (from memory).
