Been a while since I've been around, I think financial constraints are the bane of all motorsport enthusiasts. Which is exactly what this project is all about! I just in the last 2 weeks bought my self a brand new 2017 non-abs ninja 300, reason I went with new is because I got a good deal of $5,500 which with 1 year rego and the benefit of breaking in the engine my self and that piece of mind that everything is new paying the extra $1000 was well worth the money. I have to say out of the box I like them quite a bit (in terms of "for the price its a good machine to destroy on the track"). There are only to be 5 changes that are going to be made before it goes onto the track. -Fork internals $200 -Tyres ~$400 -Clip-ons $230 -Rearsets $150 -Shock $530 Total spent: including oils, lubes and cleaners etc is about ~7k All of the above has already been purchased but only the front forks have been done. Still waiting for delivery for everything else. The springs I put in the front were 377mm x 29mm straight rate 0.75kg/mm (OEM 0.65kg/mm). Front sag (with stock rear shock with OEM preload setting) was set to 95mm of the 120mm stroke (30%) which was achieved with a preload of about 10mm, (stock preload appears to be about 23mm which is quite high). The rear shock purchased was YSS which comes with a spring that has a rate of 8.2kg/mm (OEM ~9.3kg/mm). Tyres will be Rosso II's after trying both RS10's and Rosso's I preferred the Rosso's. Clip-ons are woodcraft, rearsets are Chinese and thats about it. Will take some photos of some work and bike but its not really a big job mechanically. I have no intention of changing from the stock exhaust or trying to make more power, it will just be off to the track to practise practise practise. Not going to bother with anything aesthetic or light weighting just keeping it as straight out of the box as possible apart from suspension, ergo and tyres. First track day should happen within a month.
not sure how the rvf400 is doing havent spoken to the owner for a while. I ended up parting with the mc22 to move and get back on my feet again. Which was successful as you can see hehe:

well, Manheim's and Pickles do write off auctions, ninja 300's sell for about $1000 , most are low mileage with some panel damage, perfect Track Bikes
Oh you mean the bike, i thought you meant cheap track days. Na I wouldn't have bought a ninja 300 unless i planned to bin it at the track. If I was to buy a road bike for the road I probably would have chosen something completely different. The reason I went new was because 5.5k is stupidly cheap for brand new. Unfortunately if I did buy cheap second hand I am the type of person to completely pull it apart looking for problems, then there is the servicing and the problems that are found and I just don't feel like the headache this time around. Meanwhile I have to say these 100$ rear sets are quality as hell for China standards, I cant believe how good they are! Highly recommend!!! Although very very hard to see lol.
If you have the bike stripped and gutted of all the road gear and non essentials, you could sell it all to a wreckers or maybe even a dealer (ninja 300 smash repairs would be common) you would have more funds for go-fast bits, a set of leathers, new exhaust etc.
