Hello all and thanks for having on board your forum. I was hoping someone may be able to help me source an Air filter for my Honda CD250U, I can't seem to find any in-stock online anywhere I was wondering if there is also alternative at all? Honda pt no. 17211-KW4-000 if it helps. Many thanks for any help. Regards
I couldn't find any through my usual sources unfortunately. But as i found with my 1983 VT250FD i had to make my own filter, using some filter foam and some lightly coating it with air filter oil it comes up a treat.
Thanks for your swift response midnightlight, I like your idea does this involve then keeping the paper outer and replacing foam inside? Sorry I've not actually taken apart a filter before
In my case it involved cutting all the paper filter material out and then packing that area with foam. I'll try to find a pic of another member who i copied the idea off.
Remove the paper part and cut the foam about 3/4" (20mm) bigger all round the edge. Glue together to make a cylinder and when dry saturate with foam airfilter oil (as used in dirt bikes) and squeeze out excess. Slip the sleeve over the metal frame and your good to go.
So, with the below filter would it be a case of replacing the paper part with foam and glueing it around the top and bottom edges or am I missing the point? Thanks
might sound stupid but wash it in laundry detergent/powder and allow to dry for several days and will come up as serviceable. have done it.
yep hot soapy water can sort it ... I did it with the FZR filter and its still going strong after thousands of Ks .... just leave it in the sun a day or 2
Do you know anyone with an ultrasonic clear, put it in there for a while, should come out like new. Get the dimension's and see if any of these are close, then cut and shut it to make it work. use some windscreen urethane to glue the element into your frame or whatever you come up with. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Uni-Air-Fil...426990?hash=item48a667352e:g:ImMAAOSweM1aO7iW https://www.ebay.ie/itm/air-filter-...980952?hash=item5203050d18:g:LDEAAOSwuHdaVODN https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Premium-Air...041830?hash=item43f816a2a6:g:VGUAAOSwx2dYEoX0 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/K-N-Ova...296238&hash=item3b02a8241d:g:3IoAAOSwb9BapUCa
Wow thanks! The cleaning method sounds the quickest and easiest but I thought (probably wrongly) that the filter was paper and water and paper don't go too well together does it not damage the filter?
Washed and reused myself as well... works fine. Just need to warm it up in the sun to loosen the crap on it before washing with warm water.
Sweet, I'll give a go then, nothing to lose really I guess, If I mess it up then I'll go down the foam route.
i washed mine in petrol then after shaking most liquid out then used detergent and dried.put back in when dry and is going strong.you have nothing to lose.
Well I've washed the filter in detergent it hasn't fallen apart and it smells great just letting it dry by the dehumidifier now for a good few days as it won't dry outside I'm the snow very effectively.
