Found this info today, From their result's it look's like they didn't wait for it to soak into the thread's too long. Machinist's Workshop Mag recently published some information on various penetrating oils that I found very interesting. Some of you might appreciate this. The magazine reports they tested penetrates for break out torque on rusted nuts. - They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrates with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment. Penetrating oils Average torque load to loosen * No Oil used 516 pounds * WD-40 238 pounds * PB Blaster 214 pounds * Liquid Wrench 127 pounds * Kano Kroil 106 pounds * ATF-Acetone mix 53 pounds *** ATF=Automatic Transmission Fluid The ATF-Acetone mix is a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note this "home brew" released bolts better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Steve from Godwin-Singer says that ATF-Acetone mix is best, but you can also use ATF and lacquer thinner in a 50-50 mix, (this actually works well). Power-steering fluid also works as well as ATF!
Just got back from the shop. The manager is a top bloke, very helpful etc. He currently has way over 500 tin's of PB Blaster in stock too They bought in 2 pallet load's of the stuff when the NSW Agent dropped the line from his stock, there are no other seller's in the country at this point. I was asking about shipping the PB B'LASTER and he said it can be very hard to organise, and it's expensive so i'll have to ring around and see what i can sort out. He said to have it shipped over from USA that he doubt's Custom's would let it through and would most likely seize it, and that he pay's a very high premium to get it into the country, then pay's more again to have it sent over via road transport to him from interstate as it's classed as dangerous good's ( Dangerous and Prohibited good's and packaging guide 2017) D2.2 Class 2 (gasses including aerosol's) ) Retail price is around $21 per tin, but he has said if i buy it in bulk i can get it for a better price, around $15 a tin. I was given a tin to try out myself, and he is happy to sell me as many tin's as i need to resell on to other's The smell is kind of sweet, and a bit like Camphor, it clear's your sinuses quickly lol There is a warning to use it only in well ventilated area's. I have spoken with @GreyImport and have his approval to sell it through here. So i'll try and work out something with packing and postage, payment will be via paypal I'll post all the detail's here once i have it all sorted Now i just need to find some rusty / seized up bolt's and nut's to try it out...
Using this stuff does require patience, sometimes it works almost instantly, if not don't force the removal or extraction, go & have a break or go put away some tools etc (a practice I learnt during my mechanic apprenticeship days) Try again, if this doesn't work, put it aside, work on something else, & try again tomorrow. & just remember penetrating rust & corrosion is only part of this products qualities. I should also mention it is an excellent water repellent,& awesome for use on corroded or oxidized electrical connections etc.
