There are many similarities. I can tell you that bearing shell sizes are different as are the piston rings. Rings on later models are narrower and not interchangeable (at least the oil control rings anyway). Gaskets changed between models also and are not interchangeable. I think cam chains and gears are also different. Gearbox internals have some variations also. Learnt from experience on some of these. There might be more in common between Spada and VTR250 engines. Peter.
thanks for the information A wrecker in Australia is selling an advertised SPADA motor but I noticed it had MC15 on the cases he shows a picture of the bike with an alloy frame and also selling lots of Spada engine parts I was keen on getting a spare motor but not sure what I am likely to get
Can you post the pics of the wreckers listing? Our resident Spada expert @Gizziracer has been away from the forum for awhile. Hopefully, when he visits again he can confirm what the wrecker is actually selling.
Thanks again I spoke to Guzziracer this morning and forgot to ask him I'll try & post photos today It's all on Ebay Australia
Not sure what part of Australia you're in, but this looks like a good buy if you're after a spare spada engine. I couldn't find any other engines on eBay. https://tinyurl.com/nhcfj9z2
For anyone who cares, the 1987 VTZ250 was the pick of the bunch as it had the 43hp version of the MC15 engine. The Spada MC15 Engine had lower power (40hp) but more torque at lower revs. VTZ250 - 43hp/12,500rpm & 24.5Nm/10,500rpm Spada - 40hp/12,000rpm & 25.5Nm/9,000rpm Both variants are better than the MC08 engine from the VT250F VT250F - 35hp/11,000rpm & 21.5Nm/10,000rpm
Is there any way to determine the model it came from? I'm having issue registering my bike, as the VIN/Chassis for my VT250 are MC20, but the engine is MC15e. It also does not have a compliance plate so trying to workout the history, which the previous seller does not have access to either, has been a pain. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Have u done a PPSR check ..... it will give you the engine number for your VIN In NSW you can get a "vehicle history report" .... should be something similar in SA https://www.ppsr.gov.au/?gclid=Cj0K...P2KWPjBGhiaPZeAkQWcaAjWvEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
@Kenny0987 Have I missed something here? I am not sure why you are having registration issues. My SPADA has an MC20 number stamped on the headstem (factory number) and the engine number starts with MC15E. This is all original SPADA. Having no factory or importer compliance plate could be an issue though. As suggested above, do a PPSR check. That will give you confidence in what you have. Peter.
As I said previously, "MC15E engines were used in the VTZ250 (MC15) and the Spada (MC20)". My Spada, like @jmw76 has a MC20 VIN and a MC15E engine number. The VTZ250 was released before the Spada, so you would expect the lower engine numbers might be from a VTZ250. There's nowhere I can find online that spells out which engine number range was used in the VTZ and which was used in the SPADA. The eBay advert has a video of the engine running in the bike before it was parted out.
I just did the PPSR check, only information it gave was that it was not on finance, but the actual vehicle/engine details were not specified. I thought it might be an error with the bike, but when I tried my friends bike, same information came through.
So the MC15E engine is from factory? The inspector at Regency SA had a look and said that it was a non-standard engine that was fitted afterwards, as the MC15E did not match the MC20 stamp. The lack of a compliance plate was just the icing on the cake. I got in contact with Import Approvals, and they confirmed for me that it was imported, but they could not give me any of the info about the vehicle VIN/Chassis or Engine Numbers when it was imported due to the fact that I'm not the person who imported it. I would've thought privacy laws extended only to personal info, not about the bike that I now currently own and wish to register... I've hit a dead end with the PPSR check as it only gave me minimal information about the bikes finance status and nothing more. Any other suggestions?
Check the rego with the VIN https://www.carhistory.com.au/rego-check/sa-rego-check This is usually the info a PPSR comes up with
Apologies I wasn't clear, I just recently purchased this bike from Victoria, and I am in SA. It was previously on Club Rego in VIC, which runs out in February. So when I took it for an Identity Inspection which is required to register a vehicle purchased interstate so I could register it in SA, the inspector noticed the lack of a compliance plate, and the engine number being MC15E compared to the MC20 on the chassis, and the simple identity inspection became a bigger issue. This is what the PPSR came back with: (I'm assuming because it was imported?)
