Howdy! I was out riding my new-to-me RG250 the other day and quickly noticed that the forks need to be serviced. They're also likely undersprung for my 220lb frame. A little later on my ride, my shock blew out, and then one of my upper mounting tabs broke off the frame! All in all a fun day. Anyway, I'd love to hear recommendations on upgrading my forks and shock. Are there any shocks from other bikes that will bolt in? For the forks I was planning to rebuild them with either stiffer springs and/or spacers, but am open to suggestions there as well. I'll be welding the tab back, unless there's a known upgrade for this as well. Many thanks!
Nice. Looks like that mount had been done up too tight or wrong spacer and caused it to bend. Get a good weld on it and check to spacing before tightening the bolt.
Exactly this. The spacer (#3 above) was on the outside of the mount, forcing the mount in. Pretty frustrating to find.
Thanks. Yeah not sure anyone offers a new one anymore. I'd prefer to hear someone say "XX year GSXR600 is a perfect fit and upgrade" or something along those lines.
You can poke around in here https://litetek.co/Info_RearShock_GreyBikes.html If you can give me the dimensions of your shock when you have it removed I could add it to the list. Might help someone else in the future. Also the YSS catalogue is quite extensive and lists lengths etc.
Hi. I can't remember the year, but I've used a early model Yamaha r6 shock. I'll have to search my info to see if I can find the year. It does raise the rear a bit though.
That's cool. I'll try to get you those details. Quick measurements are 273mm eye to eye, top mount is an eye with 25mm width and M12 hole, bottom is a clevis with 25mm width and M12 hole. In your travels, have you come across any tables or references that cross-reference various shock data like you're compiling? I'm thinking like All Balls has on their website for bearings. I haven't been able to find anything too exhaustive.
Thanks, the stroke is very important. The YSS catalogue has quite a huge listing. There is one in the resources section.
I have added it to the shock table. You can see all the missing information but you would have to take the spring off etc to get that. https://litetek.co/Info_RearShock_GreyBikes.html http://www.suzukicycles.org/RG-series/index.html?RG250-Gamma.shtml~isoraami
Anyone has a line on fork seals for this bike? Or at least dimensions? Race Tech has them, but they have it listed as 37mm when my fork tubes are 35mm, so I'm not inclined to trust what they have.
yss product code for a rear shock for the rg250 is MZ366-280TR-17 I use a YSS shock and fork springs in my R1-Z250 and they work very well
Welp, welded the shock tab back on and beefed it up a bit. Fitted a CBR300 shock, which seems good albeit a little stiff. Got the forks stripped down and ready to rebuild with heavier Race Tech springs. Progress!
