Back Protectors

Righto folks,

Regardless if your a race nut, a track day addict or a daily commuter.......i wanna know......do you use a back protector and if not.....why not?

I've been using one for a while and i see it as really cheap insurance for your back. yes nothing is ever 100%....but added protection is better than no protection at all......Mine is as pictured below - Dainese BAP Back Protector, cost me a $150 small money if you think of it considering how exposed your back is on a bike. It felt weird to use for the first 2 laps and now i think it would feel weird not having it.

 

Got one in my textile jacket.

 

Yes I have one for track days, Its a cheapy off ebay, I paid about $50 delivered

 

Also have a set of trailbike body armour for days/ride events when I don't want to wear full textile gear that I picked up from ALDI. Included a roost (chest/back/shoulder protector)

 

I'm of the belief that most, if not all motorcycle jackets have some sort of protection built in? Correct me if I'm wrong.

 

My old R-Jays leather jacket has padding on the elbows, back and shoulders and pockets for additional padding protectors but no pads in it. It was second-hand so they may have been removed before it was sold though.

 

you are correct Phil, most jackets will have a small bit of protection built in. my race leathers have protection in the shoulders, arms, legs and a little in the back. i have pockets for extra ce armor to go in but nothing that covers as much or grips to your body like a proper back protector.

for my old street jacket i bought this insert below along with chest inserts, extra protection but not covering as much as a full back protector.




back protectors are designed to move with the shape of your spine and covers all as far as your coxis, like below:




A roost guard is designed with upper chest protection, i'll use a roost guard for MX but i'll wear it over full armor including a full back protector to stop stones been smashed up, its all to bulky for inside leathers though

im lacking in chest protection under my leathers so considering a good chest insert or this:



but as Kiffsta said you can get a cheap one from eBay for $50.......its cheap insurance that i'd recommend to any one......on the track or on the road.

 

i have a fairly large one in my alpinestars jacket... but how may people have had their jackets fitted properly recently? i have lost weight so my jacket is now to big for me... so it would not be doing its job 100%

 

I always wear one on the road.

My dirt bike jacket has inserts including the back.

My road race leathers has inserts including the back and I wear a back protector as well.

 

Tim your dead right, proper fitting gear is a must, i'll be the first to admit my leathers are one size to big for me now and my last crash i got movement in them and with movement comes lack of protection. My last crash the protection pads on the arm moved and i was left with a few "carpet" burns along my right arm, nothing serious but still stung for a few days. I'm hoping to out the size back on over the summer months to fit my leathers a bit better i'd love new leathers but the bank wont allow me

 

I have a one from phillip is company felt weird first lap aswell moo but after that don't notice it and if it ever saves me rather have it on then not
